Following the release of a new Black Panther 2 trailer, an insider hinted that a Black Panther title could be in development.
The San Diego Comic-Con event threw out big revelations about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those revelations include the latest trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly anticipated sequel to Ryan Coogler’s 2018 superhero film of the same name. However, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may not be the only Black Panther superhero project currently in the works. An industry insider jumped at the opportunity to spread news regarding a Black Panther video game.
The news comes from Jeff Grubb, who is using this information to build predictions for his upcoming Giant Bomb Game Mess. Grubb posted a tweet saying, “Wakanda Forever intro trailer is great. Let’s talk about Black Panther tomorrow.” More specifically, there are currently no major Black Panther video games in development, so Grubb is said to be preparing to reveal a previously unknown project that he learned from a in its sources.
Given the brevity of Grubb’s tweet, there’s plenty of room for misunderstanding. Grubb may be referring to the 2021 Black Panther: War for Wakanda DLC release for Marvel’s Avengers title. Or he could be talking about the browser game Black Panther: Jungle Pursuit on Marvel HQ. He might even be talking about a Black Panther game that was in development but was cancelled. In short, gamers who love Black Panther should probably not expect too much before Grubb shares more information.
As to what the game will look like, which studio will be responsible for developing and releasing it, and when it might come out are things we can only speculate on. Recently Marvel has licensed its superhero franchises to various game developers. We’ve got Marvel’s Avengers, an online action game, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a role-playing game from Square Enix. Then there are Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Wolverine games. An upcoming tactical RPG called Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Marvel Snap is a free mobile card game. There’s even a secret Marvel adventure game from Amy Hennig and new studio Skydance New Media in development.
It can be said that trying to predict what this Black Panther project will look like is very difficult. There’s no denying that a Black Panther game similar to what Insomniac did with Spider-Man would probably be very welcome. Gamers can expect more details on Grubb’s insider information in the near future. Before that, the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release in November. Perhaps Marvel will also share news about the Black Panther game before the movie’s release.
