Netflix’s Alice in Borderland season 2 finds Arisu and his friends once again plunging into a series of deadly games in abandoned Tokyo. This time, however, they have a little more insight into the sublime space-time dimension they’re in, use the landscape a bit, and understand how alliances need to be made against the masters. play. The chapter condenses a lot from the manga, but pretty much the core characters still retain their essence on the page. Thankfully, one character as close to the original as possible is Kyuma, a punk rock singer who takes on the role of King of the Clubs.
His band is there as citizens, or people who have beaten the games and decided to stay in this world to continue the games they entered and survive. As expected, the experienced Kyuma poses a sizable threat to Arisu, displaying intrigue, determination, and understanding. But by the time their story rivalry was over, they developed a close relationship with Sasuke Uchiha and Itachi from the Naruto franchise.
Sasuke and Itachi have an antagonistic but caring relationship
In Naruto lore, Itachi betrayed the Uchiha clan and wiped them out before becoming a fugitive. He will join Akatsuki, which leads to Sasuke wanting his brother dead. However, as Sasuke embarks on a journey of revenge, Itachi’s actions are revealed to be part of a larger plot, led by the Uchiha clan plotting a coup d’etat. He was hired by the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, to carry out assassinations, and then downfalls. It would protect Konoha’s reputation, as a civil war would be seen as a sign of weakness. But Itachi had hoped that Sasuke would repair their clan’s legacy.
That’s why Itachi sometimes signs up under the child’s guardianship, and why he’s attached to Akatsuki: to secretly monitor terrorist threats. But upon seeing him terminally ill, Itachi also left a challenge to Sasuke, fighting him along the way so he could unlock the power of his clan’s eyes. This prompted Sasuke to harness his Sharingan and Rinnegan, becoming the ultimate warrior. Sadly, Itachi died, but he was glad he leveled up his younger brother and left him with caring allies like Sakura and Naruto.
That said, it took a while for Sasuke to accept what Itachi had done. He was bitter at being drawn into such a selfish scheme, seeing himself as a victim. That’s right, that’s why when Itachi gave an explanation for his elaborate scheme – regardless of the kind of PTSD it caused Sasuke – much of it seemed like nonsense and as if his brother used Sasuke as a weapon.
Sasuke will heal in time, realizing and accepting his role as a tool to heal the ninja world, but the way he is treated remains cold. After all, it pushed him down a dark path where he nearly took many lives and became something Itachi had to fight against. Fortunately, Sasuke is now moving forward with Itachi’s doctrines, using love as his motive in a much more endearing way.
Alice in Borderland’s Kyuma also helps to upgrade Arisu
However, Alice in Borderland is more nuanced to its ‘sibling rivalry’, as Arisu meets someone he admires but fears. It opens at the beginning of Season 2, where Kyuma’s band is tasked with playing catch with Arisu’s gang. The game relies on them using the bracelet to get each other’s points, but if the user tries to remove the bracelet, they die. Worse still, Arisu’s team is not physically strong compared to the band, and they are quickly sucked out of points.
Instead of gloating, Kyuma repeatedly warned Arisu that he had to break his mental shackles, play dirty, and improve. This causes Arisu to take Tatta’s bracelet, although it is rather warped, as Tatta breaks and maims his arm in a bloody scene. When Arisu meets for what appears to be a diplomatic conversation, he then grabs Kyuma’s arm, sucking his points because his quota (combined with Tatta’s) makes Arisu a become the dominant player. However, Kyuma was grateful, learning from experience. He knows his band is having a good time and enjoying this world of entertainment, but he wants the others to be free.
It’s tied to Kyuma’s punk philosophy and rebellious spirit. So he ignores the physical battles and how close both teams are to killing each other, making Arisu all the more fierce. However, he also never urged the teenager to lose his compassion, for it was his heart and soul. It’s much more emotional than Naruto’s Itachi abusing Sasuke, nearly killing his brother, and inadvertently aiding Akatsuki’s chaos. Instead, Kyuma offered wisdom as the laser shot up the entire band. It nodded to Itachi and Sasuke’s last exchange, when Kyuma (who had a cool, calm Itachi attitude) left his final message as a big brother.
He advises the teenager to cherish life and the people Arisu meets along the way, as they are the reason he has to win the game. Unfortunately, Tatta died from his wounds, but Arisu finally understood the sacrifice Kyuma was talking about. It was something Sasuke also accepted, reminding him that in times of war against tyrannical lords, it was necessary to fall and get dirty in order to survive. Most importantly, they needed to choose between being less evil, or becoming something temporarily to defeat the enemy.
In the end, all the wisdom of this sage was dispensed with, and seeing Kyuma perish was the key to pitting Arisu against later villains like the King of Spades. There’s also the croquet versus Mira game, in which Arisu recalls Kyuma’s message about fighting for those people consider to be their real family and not just strangers in his kingdom.
