I’m in Love With the Villainess has released a series of preview images of Episode 1.
As detailed by Anime Corner, the anime’s official website recently posted new images showing off the exciting romance between main characters Rae Taylor and Claire Francois. Earlier this month, the studio also unveiled a new promotional video for Villainess highlighting the series’ theme songs, Raise Y/Our Hands and Optimum Combine. The anime adaptation of the popular light novel series of the same name by Inori and Hanagata, is scheduled to premiere on October 2. Crunchyroll will stream the series for viewers outside Japan.
Hideaki Oba (Yowamushi Pedal) is in the director’s chair for the movie I’m in Love With the Villainess. Ayumu Hisao (Tokyo Mew Mew New, Is It Wrong To Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) is in charge of both Script and Series Layout. Kiyotaka Yachi serves as the series’ Art Director. Toshimitsu Kobayashi (Tokyo Mew Mew New) and Yoko Sato (Gintama) are collaborating as Animation Directors on the series. Sato will also be in charge of character design. Yu Serizawa (The Dangers in My Heart) and Karin Nanami (Kakegurui) play Rae Taylor and Claire Francois, respectively.
Written by Inori and illustrated by Hanagata, I’m In Love With the Villainess is about a high school student named Rei Oohashi who is in love with the main antagonist of her favorite otome video game, Revolution. One day, Oohashi wakes up to discover that she has been reincarnated in the game as “Rae Taylor”, and that her crush, Claire Francois, is her classmate. Now, Rae’s life revolves around winning Claire’s heart, while avoiding the advances of her three beloved boys. The novel launched on self-publishing website Shosetsuka Ni Naro in January 2018 before being acquired by Aichu Publishing House. The company later published the novel’s first volume in February 2019.
The popularity of the original novels prompted further entries in the series to be added. On June 16, manga artist Tsuke created a comedy spin-off titled Maid’s Kitchen, focusing on Rae making dessert for Claire. AONOSHIMO has also created a manga adaptation of Inori’s story. Additionally, Inori and Hanagata worked on a follow-up novel together titled I’m in Love With the Villainess — She’s So Cheeky For a Commoner. This novel tells the main story from Claire’s perspective.
I’m In Love With the Villainess will stream on Crunchyroll starting October 2. The original novels are available at Seven Seas Entertainment.
