Compared with the movie “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway”, the movie “SEED FREEDOM” surpassed with 500,000 tickets sold and earned 770 million yen in the first two days. Meanwhile, “Gundam Hathaway” sold 259,074 tickets and earned 523,943,800 yen (about $4.77 million) in its first three days at the box office in June 2021.
The film “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway” came in third place in terms of ticket sales during its opening weekend, becoming the first film in the Gundam series since 1988’s “Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s CounterAttack” to reach the number 1 mark. billion yen and total revenue of about 2.21 billion yen (about 14.9 million USD at current conversion).
The director of “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM,” Mitsuo Fukuda, directed the film at Bandai Namco Filmworks. Fukuda also participated in writing the script with his late wife Chiaki Morosawa and Liu Goto. Hisashi Hirai (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED) is the character designer.
Takanori Nishikawa (also known by his stage name TM Revolution) performed the film’s song titled “Freedom,” produced by t.komuro (Tetsuya Komuro). The band See-Saw returned to perform the ending song “Sarigiwa no Romantics” (Romantics Upon Parting), marking the duo’s return after two decades.
