The anime is expected to premiere in April on TV Tokyo and other broadcasting stations. This is a brand new anime series, telling the story of Kraft Lawrence and his encounter with the wolf girl Holo. Jun Fukuyama will return as Kraft Lawrence and Ami Koshimizu will take on the role of Holo. Takeo Takahashi will return as producer, this time as director. Hijiri Sanpei (spice and Wolf II episode director) will be the anime’s director at studio Passione. Isuna Hasekura launched the light novel Spice and Wolf with illustrations by Jū Ayakura in 2006. The light novel took a break after volume 17 in 2011 and returned with volume 18 in 2016. The 24th and latest volume was published in January 2023.
The light novel has also adapted two television anime seasons with director Takeo Takahashi and screenwriter Naruhisa Arakawa responsible. The first season aired in Japan from January to March 2008 and the second season (Spice and Wolf II) from July to September 2009. Both seasons were released on home video by Funimation.
A virtual reality anime that follows the television anime and was released in June 2019 for Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE, and Oculus Go Edition. The sequel was released in December 2020.
