In the film, Asaki Yuikawa plays the main character Yū Higashi, while Hina Yomiya voices the character Kurumi Taiga, known as “Western Star”. Reina Ueda voices “Southern Star” Ranko Katori and Haruka Aikawa voices Mika Kamei, “Northern Star”, who is also one of Yū Higashi's old classmates from elementary school. Cast members Yuikawa, Yomiya, Ueda and Aikawa performed a song titled “Hōi Jishin” (Direction Itself) from the film, written by Takayama and composed by Masaru Yokoyama. The novel describes the 10 years of Yū Higashi, a high school girl whose goal is to become an idol. The film was directed by Masahiro Shinohara and supervised by Koji Masunari, with a script by Yuuko Kakihara, character designs by Rio, and music composed by Masaru Yokoyama. Aniplex will distribute the film.
Takayama, a former first-generation member of idol group Nogizaka46, wrote the novel from 2016 to 2018 in Kadokawa Media Factory's manga and book news magazine Da Vinci. The novel was published in November 2018.
