According to the latest data from SensorTower, since its launch in September 2020, the popular game Genshin Impact has generated $3.7 billion.
The report says player spending makes Genshin Impact the third highest grossing mobile game in the world. In terms of the Chinese market, Tencent’s mobile games topped the list, with Honor of Kings generating $5.5 billion in revenue over the past two years and PUBG Mobile making $4.9 billion.
Genshin Impact ranks second in global player spending, generating $2.5 billion outside of China since launch. Roblox tops the list with over $2.5 billion in revenue. Candy Crush Saga came in third with $2.3 billion in player spending.
By region, China tops Genshin Impact’s list of revenue sources, with $973.3 million in revenue in iOS alone, accounting for 30.7 percent of worldwide players. Japan is second with 23.7% of total sales, while the US is third with 19.7%. The majority of revenue comes from Asia, which accounts for 70% of total player spending.
On a quarterly basis, Genshin Impact’s peak revenue period was in Q3 2021, generating $616 million globally. The revenue increase coincided with the game’s big anniversary update in September 2021 when a new character General Thunder was introduced.
Genshin Impact’s lowest-grossing quarter came right before that. Revenue for Q2 2021 was $324 million, the first time the game’s grosses fell below $400 million in a quarter.
Genshin Impact is a critically acclaimed adventure role-playing game produced by miHoYo. The game has achieved many achievements after 2 years of opening thanks to a large number of players. The number covers about two years since the game’s launch and includes both Android and iOS sales worldwide.
MiHoYo originally launched the game on September 28, 2020, and has been well received by fans and critics alike. Genshin Impact is also holding the “king” among games that use gacha monetization. In the first and second quarters of 2022, the global mobile game market declined continuously year-on-year. In contrast, Genshin Impact player spending grew 6% in Q1 to $556 million, and Q2 revenue grew 28% to $413.5 million year over year.
About a month ago, the game had its version 3.0 update that brought in new characters, equipment, events, main story updates, and brand new regions. Gamers will have to wait until December 7 to enjoy the version 3.3 update and Genius Invocation.
