Kodoani.com – WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Attack on Titan season 4, episode 26“Traitor”
Annie Leonhart’s Female Titan was one of the earliest true villains in Attack on Titan, while the “Female Titan” storyline remains one of the series’ strongest characters to this day. Season 4, Episode 26 sees Annie’s Titan form officially back in action for the first time since Season 1. It’s also the first time fans can see her performed by Studio MAPPA in all. all her glory. Previously, she was only shown in flashbacks demonstrating why each of the Warriors was a perfect fit for their Titan.
The last time the Female Titan saw any action, she was left with a lot of devastation when she woke up. Annie killed countless members of the Scouts – including the former Levi Squad – when she infiltrated their mission in an attempt to capture Eren Yeager. The Female Titan had never been seen before this mission, so her sudden appearance came as a complete shock to everyone. Armin was eventually able to figure out her identity and scouts came up with a plan to capture her.
When that plan fails, more devastation ensues. The civilians were unfortunately caught up in the battle between the Female Titan, Eren, and the Scouts. Many innocent people died and the Scouts didn’t even get any of the answers they expected after catching Annie. She used her Titan hardening ability to seal herself inside a crystal, where she remained silent and motionless for four years. However, the crystal was eventually broken in Episode 22 of Season 4 when Eren stripped off all hard objects, including the Armor Titan’s armor, as he began Rumble to destroy the world.
Annie has now filmed a few Attack on Titan episodes but has only recently gotten into the action. The Female Titan made her epic comeback in Episode 26, fighting alongside Reiner as the Armored Titan for the first time. She wasted no time killing several Yeagerists, even incorporating her signature kick as the entire fight scene was reminiscent of her rampage in Season 1. Annie’s ruthlessness in battle. no surprise. After all, she made it clear that the only life she really cared about was her father. She confesses to Hitch that she doesn’t even care about her own life.
Annie was abandoned as a child and adopted by a man she knew as her father. This man brutally trained her in martial arts so she could become a Warrior and make his life better, but when the day came when she set off on a mission on Paradis Island, he I just apologized for my mistreatment. He tearfully admits that everything he’s taught her is wrong and tells her to forget about being a Marleyan and a Warrior. All he wanted now was for his adopted daughter to return to him.
It’s not hard to see why Annie is such a separate person in Attack on Titan. Knowing her background well allows fans to see her behavior and actions in Season 1 through a whole new lens. Her ruthlessness in killing so many people as the Female Titan, to the extent that she seemed to enjoy it, is now much more understandable. The return of the Female Titan has only just begun as the battle against the Yeagerist is not yet over, and there is still a potential war against Eren.
