Kodoani.com – In the world of anime and gaming, integrating characters from different media into the main plot is not always easy. However, the author of Re:ZeroTappei Nagatsuki, decided to do this with two characters from the mobile game Re:Zero – Lost in Memories, bringing them into the main story.
Re:Zero – Lost in Memories is a gacha game based on the Re:Zero series and was released in September 2020. The game features two characters that do not appear in the main plot of Re:Zero.
Shion, a blue-haired girl, serves as a navigator in the game, assisting protagonist Subaru in regaining his lost memories. However, Shion is later revealed to be a true villain in the game.
Lilac, an antagonist in the game, is a ghost created by Shion.
Tappei Nagatsuki decided to reintroduce these two characters in the main plot of Re:Zero through an additional story titled “Omega in Wonderland Part 1”. In this story, Omega and Colette, two characters from the game Lost in Memories, are trapped in a dream world and meet a purple-haired elf with purple eyes, similar to Lilac. The story also uses the same terminology and powers for both characters, suggesting that Shion and Lilac have become part of Re:Zero’s main plot.
Fan Reaction
Fan reaction to the integration of Shion and Lilac into Re:Zero’s main storyline has been mixed. Some argued that this made the two characters canon in the series, while others were excited and appreciated seeing Shion and Lilac appear in the main storyline.
“Wait, are they canon now?”
“The best design comes from Lost in Memories” (referring to Lilac)
“All that time playing Lost in Memories finally paid off, I was in tears, I knew Tappei wouldn’t let me down.”
