Warning: The following contains spoilers for Berserk chapter #374! Guts eventually reunited with former Band of the Hawk member Rickert in HystericalLatest chapter of. This reunion couldn’t come at a better time for Guts, who is in desperate need of friends after losing Caska again to Griffith. In fact, Guts’ situation is so unfortunate that he doesn’t even know that Rickert is somewhere, because a recent meltdown left the warrior unconscious.
In chapter #374 Berserk, a Kushan invasion force finds Guts’ unconscious body after commandeering his ship, which had just escaped from Elfheim after Griffith’s tragic attack apparently restore the island to its rightful owner. Among the Kushan soldiers was a boy who clearly did not have the same skin tone as theirs. Although not officially identified, what appears to be the boy is none other than Rickert.
Rickert joined Kushan in Berserk
A lot has happened since Guts and Rickert last met. In fact, the size of the manga has more than doubled since their last meeting in chapter #182. At that time, Guts had just informed Rickert of the unfortunate truth that Griffith had betrayed the Band of the Hawk, but would not let the boy join him in his quest for revenge no matter how much Rickert begged. again. At Puck’s suggestion, Guts will begin the long journey to Elfheim soon after but only after stopping at Flora’s Spirit Tree, where he will obtain the Berserker Armor. Meanwhile, Rickert would eventually head to Griffith’s capital Falconia, where he would give Griffith his famous slap in the face.
In fact, that’s around the time readers last saw Rickert. In chapter #339, Rickert formed a lasting alliance in Falconia with Silat, the same Kushan who first attacked Guts during the Golden Age. Silat wanted to learn more about Griffith and Rickert kept this information to himself, so they were a perfect pair. Silat was also planning to leave Falconia for a secret Kushan village instead of joining Griffith, and Rickert was happy to go along as it was understood that Griffith may have ordered his death. The last time readers saw Rickert was when he and Silat rushed out of Falconia in chapter #341.
Kushan and Rickert may be in need of allies
Although Silat and Rickert left Falconia together, this did not ensure that Rickert was accepted by other Kushan soldiers. Rickert is most likely still disguised as a Kushan soldier to keep him from harm. In chapter #339, Silat mentions that Rickert was lucky because there was a time when outsiders were not allowed into their hidden village. This is important because most Kushan warriors join Griffith, but if the rebel Kushan army accepts Rickert, they may side with Guts. Silat informed Rickert in chapter #339, that he did not want to join someone as inhuman as Griffith, meaning they could both now lead the rebel army.
Anyone who is an enemy of Griffith is likely a friend of Guts. Furthermore, Guts’ crew in chapter #374 points out that this Kushan army could have easily destroyed them but did not, casting doubt on their evil intentions. Of course, the only caveat is that the Kushan soldiers in the latest chapter strung the unconscious Guts down, but knowing how famous Guts’ is destructive nature is, they can take additional precautions with their future fragile ally. Still, considering how desperate Guts’ current situation seems, it’s good to see Hysterical reunites its protagonist with one of his best friends.
