Warning: Spoilers for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #4
Boruto: Two blue tornadoes finally introduces a new group of villains that will hopefully be on par with those that made Naruto so memorable. While Otsutsukis like Ishikki and Momoshiki are interesting, these new villains are on a completely different level.
With Boruto now extremely powerful, Code’s only remaining villain is no match for him, and the series is in dire need of new villains. The obvious choices are Eida and Daemon, but chapter #4 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex introduced the strongest villains of the series to date.
These four beings are “Self-Aware Divine Trees”, born after Code’s Claw Grimes, born from the Ten-Tails, absorbing humans and gaining new consciousness and power. They were so powerful that even the now overwhelmed Boruto had to run away immediately as there seemed to be no way he could defeat them.
Boruto faces his strongest enemy
The Divine Tree of Self-Awareness is a new type of creature born from the Ten-Tails
Boruto teleports to Code’s hideout using Flying Raijin because he fears something disastrous is about to happen to the Ten-Tails and Grimes Claw. In chapter #2, he tells Code to withdraw Grimes while he can still control them, which means he foresaw that the monsters would have a will of their own. Unfortunately, he arrived too late, as the Ten-Tails was not only a chakra-hungry beast, it also became more intelligent and released four clones of the people “swallowed” by Grimes, one of whom was Sasuke.
What makes these villains so terrifying is that not only do they have the Rinnegan, but they also have access to the Ten-Tails’ endless chakra. Originally, the Divine Tree was born when the Ten-Tails (actually its seed), was nourished by the life of an Otsutsuki. The result is a Chakra Fruit that contains all the energy of an entire planet. These self-aware Divine Trees were born from the unwanted evolution of Code’s Ten-Tails, after it ate humans rather than Otsutsuki. Defeating them would probably be nearly impossible for Boruto, who not only fights alone but also faces threats from Kawaki and Code. Luckily, Boruto now has Kashin Koji as an ally.
Sasuke Grime used a similar technique to Chidori, which proves that these clones have the same abilities and jutsu as the originals. Added to the Ten-Tails’ power, this means they are superior to even divine villains seen in the past, such as Otsutsuki, whose ultimate goal is to merge with the Ten-Tails. These new villains don’t have that weakness, as they are manifestations of the creature itself. Add to that the fact that they have an extremely dangerous goal: the God Tree aims to drain all the chakra from a planet. However, these self-aware Divine Trees are growing and learning from moment to moment, meaning they will likely have an even more sinister goal.
It’s difficult for Boruto to introduce fans to villains that could be considered on par with Naruto, a series that stands out, among others, for its memorable villains. Part 1 of Boruto hasn’t always been successful in that endeavor, but Two Blue Vortex is clearly aiming to rectify that, introducing a new group of villains that appear to be the most powerful and threatening in the entire franchise. .
