Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill debuted its first episode on Crunchyroll. What is all this strange isekai?
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill premiered its first episode on January 10, 2023, via Crunchyroll for North American viewers. The anime is adapted from Ren Eguchi’s light novel series, which is currently being released with 13 volumes already in print. This isekai comedy follows Mukoda Tsuyoshi as he is summoned to another world along with three other people from Earth.
Mukoda and his team are supposed to protect the Reijseger kingdom from the Demon King, but there is a small problem. All four people summoned from Earth have special abilities. The three who came with Mukoda Tsuyoshi all possessed high swordsmanship and magical skills. However, Mukoda’s unique ability is called “Online Grocery”. Since his skills were not considered useful, Mukoda was cast aside and given 20 gold coins to sustain himself in this new world.
What can Mukoda do in a new world?
When Mukoda was kicked out of the palace, he decided to leave the kingdom as quickly as possible while also not standing out. He knows it’s important to keep his outsider identity a secret from everyone he meets to keep himself safe. While venturing out of Reijseger, Mukoda knew that leaving was the right decision. The royal family will soon stop all travel outside the kingdom, and anyone who wants to leave can only walk. Mukoda hires a group of warriors to escort him to the neighboring kingdom, and with their help he is able to travel far and learn more about his Online Grocery Store skill.
The online grocery store means that Mukoda can access food and cooking-related items from modern Japan. He can use Reijseger’s currency to purchase these items and use them however he sees fit. He seizes the opportunity to cook for others by using his skills for his escorts. As the escorts ate the food he prepared, Mukoda noticed that their morale was much higher than before. He is aware that food from modern Japan has a great influence on the people of Reijseger — the statistics of people consuming Mukoda food from the Online Grocery Store are off the charts. They are healthier, stronger and more alive. The aroma of Mukoda’s ginger pork dish even attracts a magical wolf, which begs Mukoda to cook him as much ginger pork that he can fill his stomach. After the wolf finished eating, it asked Mukoda to make a contract with it so that it could become Mukoda’s subordinate. Mukoda couldn’t refuse, leaving him and his escorts with a magical wolf as a new member of their party.
What can Mukoda do with online groceries?
The first episode hinted at a lot of what Mukoda could do with his new ability. For starters, he can access any food or cooking related item in no time as long as he has enough money. With that, everything from Online Grocery Stores costs about the same in modern Japan. The biggest discovery Mukoda made was that a magic item similar to a portable gas stove he had acquired through his skills cost much more in Reijseger than in Japan. One of the most popular items among the escorts was white bread, which he used to make bread for them. Mukoda realized the importance of becoming familiar with the ingredients in Reijseger after noticing how Japanese food affected the stats of his escorts. After his escorts killed a wild boar, Mukoda treated the meat like any other pork and made delicious meals with it.
Although it’s only been an episode so far, Mukoda’s adventures with Online Grocery have brought a lot of insight and impact to those around him. He learned that Japanese food can have a powerful effect on people from Reijseger and that it is best for him to cook with local ingredients. Although his skill is not desirable when it comes to protecting a kingdom from the Demon King, Mukoda can still gain a surprising amount of money with cooked meals.
