The cast for the anime television adaptation of Shinobu Takayama’s Haigakura manga was announced on Friday, including Takeo Ōtsuka as Ichiyō, Kaito Ishikawa as Tenkō, Lynn as Hakushurin, Hiro Shimono as Ransaiwa and Satoshi Hino as Sontō.
The story opens in a remote kingdom shared by gods and humans, with Ichiyō, a young individual, embarking on a quest to capture gods scattered across the kingdom. Along with his subordinate god Tenkō, Ichiyō pursues four evil gods who hold the key to the kingdom’s downfall.
Directed by Junichi Yamamoto, famous for works such as “Armor Shop for Ladies & Gentlemen” and “More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers”, the anime is produced by Typhoon Graphics. Yū Murai, who was responsible for writing the scripts for episodes 3, 5, 7, 10-11 of “Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke’s Mansion,” oversaw the compilation of the series.
Masaki Satō, recognized for his contributions to “Slam Dunk”, “Ultimate Muscle” and “Record of Ragnarok”, designed the characters, while Yuki Kurihara from “Dropkick on My Devil!” handle music composition.
The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2024. Shinobu Takayama began serializing the manga in Ichijinsha’s Zero-Sum Ward magazine in 2008. After the magazine ceased publication in 2015, the manga continued to exist on Zero-Sum Online service, becoming Takayama’s longest-running series.
Ichijinsha has published 16 volumes, accumulating more than 1.3 million copies in circulation, including digital copies. Takayama’s previous work, the manga “Amatsuki”, also made its television anime debut in 2008.
