Application to restart anime with another director, citing dissatisfaction with adaptation choices
Kodoani.com – A fan petition to “remake” the anime Chainsaw Man announced on Tuesday that it has surpassed 2,000 signatures. The petition asks studio MAPPA to restart the anime with a different director, citing dissatisfaction with the adaptation choices.
According to the petitioner, the anime is polarizing because the movie-like direction reduces the intensity and humorous element of the manga. The writer quoted Denji’s line cut from episode 1 and switched to Kobeni’s fight scene in episode 9 as an example of the director’s “misunderstanding of the theme and foreshadowing in the original”.
The petition further highlights criticisms of the anime’s pacing, such as the claim that “too much time was spent before the Samurai Swordsman part.” The petition also criticized the casting of Kikunosuke Toya as Denji, stating that Toya’s performance was “too dark and failed to convey how heartless Denji is.”
The petition plans to collect signatures through December 31.
The anime premiered on TV Tokyo and five other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video on October 11.
Ryū Nakayama directed the anime at MAPPA, and Hiroshi Seko wrote the script. Kazutaka Sugiyama is designing the characters. The music is composed by kensuke ushio.
Kenshi Yonezu performed the opening theme song, “KICK BACK.” The anime has 12 ending theme songs, one for each episode.
