Chainsaw Man: Denji is not a Creep – He’s a victim

It’s easy to see Chainsaw Man’s Denji as an out-of-control pervert, but that misses the socialization (or lack of it) he grew up with.

The following contains spoilers for Episodes 7 and 8 of Chainsaw Man, currently streaming on Crunchyroll, as well as a brief discussion of the attack.

Shonen’s main characters are more likely to have naughty personalities than not but in Chainsaw Man, Denji’s quirky personality tends to be more amoral than good-natured. He is frequently reprimanded for his lack of flair and rude attitude towards the women in his life.

Of course, Denji’s behavior in these circumstances was unforgivable, but one could argue that this behavior has so far placed him in a far more dangerous situation than any other woman. which woman it targets.

Denji is not mature enough to work in public safety

Before Denji met Makima and joined the Public Safety Unit, Pochita was his only true companion for most of his life. As an orphan in debt to the yakuza, Denji didn’t have much of a normal childhood. He turned to demon hunting to pay off his debt and only really interacted with yakuza members – who weren’t exactly the epitome of morality – during his childhood. Without the right parents, friends or role models, it’s not uncommon for Denji to not be properly socialized and have no specific goals in life other than having a girlfriend and enjoying life.

Worse still, Denji’s relative youth means he’s still pretty innocent despite his apparently mundane nature. He doesn’t fully understand concepts like love and romantic relationships, and his eagerness to engage in them makes him vulnerable to those who take advantage of him. He had fallen prey to Himeno, an irresponsible adult who should have known better, and Makima, who was seducing him for her own evil purposes.

When Denji reminds Himeno of his debty kiss at their department dinner, she says she’s too shy to do it soberly. During dinner, Denji’s immaturity is clearly displayed in contrast to the older demon hunters. He even looked much smaller than the rest of the group, but that didn’t seem to be enough to stop Himeno from getting drunk. Denji finally gets his kiss — and a mouthful of vomit — but that’s not all. That night, Denji was almost attacked further, and received nothing for his trouble but a half-hearted apology and a sketchy alliance to help him flirt with Makima. Despite not knowing anything, Denji was still ecstatic.

How did Makima and Himeno take advantage of Denji

Heartbroken after such a disastrous first kiss, Denji isn’t surprised when he turns to Makima for comfort. Though he takes some solace in her inviting embrace, the moment is instantly perverted as she makes an offer much like the marriage proposal that earned Denji the kiss. kiss from Himeno; If he kills Gun Devil, he will be able to fulfill his wildest fantasies with Makima. At first, this seems like a “fair” proposition, in the end, both parties benefit, but Makima’s initial agreement with Denji forbids him to refuse one of her requests. Once she makes an offer, he must accept it regardless of his feelings on the matter.

Not to mention the unrealistic scope of the quest Makima is currently setting before Denji. The Chainsaw Man teased the Gun Devil’s ability to destroy on a level far beyond any other demon, and completely eclipsed any feat Denji had achieved. Capturing a juvenile demon hunter against it is like planting a deadly wish in his head, and Makima certainly understands that.

Denji believes he has a special relationship with Makima, which explains his eagerness to comply with her demands, but the way she treats him callously when he absence suggests something except. He is being manipulated and taken advantage of by someone who only cares about his power and potential as Chainsaw Man and the worst part is, Denji doesn’t seem to even realize this. .
