City Hunter Live-Action: Coming out in 2024?

The ’90s anime adaptation is an all-time hit. But can live-action mark such feats? Well, it will all take place right after the movie comes out. The filmmakers have all the updates you need to know about the cast, plot, and release date!

The film is based on the Japanese manga of the same name. Tsukasa Hojo is the author of the manga. The manga was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1985. Since then, numerous television series, anime, and film adaptations have been released. City Hunter Live-Action is the latest installment inspired by the manga series.

Netflix took the initiative to make the film. Yuichi Sato will direct the film. Before that, he directed films like Kisaragi and Nonai Poison Berry live-action. Ryohei Suzuki will take on the role of Ryo Saeba. Previously, he starred in Hentai Kamen, Tokyo Tribe and Tokyo MER. As such, both the director and the lead actor are familiar names in the live-action community. No doubt, the new film will match its original material. Furthermore, Tatsuro Mishima will be writing the script. Yoshihide Otomo will be composing the music. Before that, the composer worked on the Orange Live-Action project.

The source material has inspired many live actions since its launch. So far, films have taken place in settings such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and France. However, the Netflix-backed series will take place in Tokyo itself. This could be a good idea for a group of Japanese fans who can relate to the movie. What is the movie about?

Ryo Saeba, also known by the alias City Hunter. A sweeper meets all the requirements of his customers. He is willing to do anything, from bodyguard to contract killer. But he won’t do the job unless there’s a lovely woman involved or if the seriousness of the client makes him feel like his heart might explode. Ryo faces the evil raging in the darkness of the city with his partner Kaori Makimura.

She was the sister of his late best friend. Kaori is easily offended and jealous when Ryo stares at the other girls. Ryo usually incurs her wrath whenever he behaves like this. The plot focuses on the secret relationship that develops between Ryo and Kaori behind the scenes, as well as how the two of them work together to complete each mission.

City Hunter Live-Action won’t premiere in 2023. Next year will be full of other movies and anime, leaving no room for live-action. However, Netflix will release the film in 2024.
