My New Boss Is Stupid doesn’t impact viewers like the salvation Akira finds in Zom 100 is laughably ironic. There is no end-of-the-world scenario that is somehow portrayed as a hopeful paradise to emphasize how dire the work environment can be. Instead, My New Boss is Goofy resonated with viewers because of the way it used adorable interactions to help Momose heal from his past work experiences. Momose interacts with the eponymous anime idiot boss of the new company he works for, Shirasaki, who becomes a positive force in Momose’s life.

My New Boss is Goofy is an adaptation of the original manga series by Dan Ichikawa.
Even without the additional context of Momose’s previous work, every scene with him and Hirosaki will melt even the coldest of hearts. Much of this is due to Hirosaki’s quirky personality. Truth be told, he’s not as stupid as the anime advertises him to be. He is quite serious and some might say even emotionless, but he is clearly kind and understanding. What makes Hirosaki so stupid is that he easily misunderstands situations or completely misunderstands what people are trying to say to the point of getting himself into quite silly, often absurd situations. All of this is complemented by Momose’s fondness for Shirasaki’s idiosyncrasies.

Zom 100 is finally back with new episodes for the Christmas special
The last three episodes of Zom 100 were put on hold due to production issues but finally have a Christmas release date.
However, it is Hirosaki’s kindness and absurdities that help Momose face her past that enhances the overall experience for the viewer. Usually, each interaction begins with Momose suffering from very heartbreaking cases of PTSD or fearing how Hirosaki might act based on his behavior or failures in the office. But instead of being humiliated or completely devastated, Shirasaki always does the best thing imaginable for Momose. Without a doubt, Shirasaki is the greatest boss anyone could ask for, especially one with such an unfortunate track record. The gratitude, relief and surprise on Momose’s face never gets old. Better yet, whenever Hirosaki’s attempts to cheer Momose up show off his “stupidity,” the effect is much greater.
Unlike Size 100, the series uses the zombie apocalypse stereotype as a metaphor for the important things to pursue in life and to denounce the toxicity all too common in Japanese work culture. Instead of, My new boss is stupid focuses on the healing process of a person traumatized by his previous work life, placing it in the context of his work life, seen through the lens of touching realism. Extremely adorable level.
