There has been a lot of mystery surrounding Dragon Ball Daima since it was announced, leaving fans curious about when it will take place in the series.
The new movie, which opens October 11, sees Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and their allies transformed into child versions of themselves by a new enemy. As a result, they must embark on an adventure to fix things. After battling gods, Broly, and the pesky Red Ribbon Army once again, the Z-Warriors are dealing with some strange magic in Dragon Ball Daima.
One big question on everyone's mind is where in the timeline does Daima take place. While Dragon Ball Super has been off the air since 2018, the franchise is still going strong with two movies, Broly and Super Hero. Additionally, the manga continues the story from where the anime left off.
Geekdom101, who first leaked information about Daima before the anime was announced, shared details about the new series' setting.
According to Geekdom, Dragon Ball Daima is a “sequel to the Majin Buu arc” and takes place before the DBZ OVA Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends and Battle of Gods.
Geekdom asserts that Daima is not part of a parallel universe and is the main storyline of Dragon Ball, as it relates to Z as a sequel and the eventual return of Super.
“The characters and worlds introduced in Dragon Ball Daima will return in the next Dragon Ball story,” the person said.
While it's unknown whether this will be a storyline in the manga, anime, movie, or all three, Geekdom believes the characters will return in a “substantial storyline later on.”
It's believed that this was agreed upon before Akira Toriyama's death, but it's possible that this has changed since then. However, Geekdom still maintains that the plan was for Daima to tie into the larger Dragon Ball universe.
