The world of anime begins with a city called Orario, which is inhabited by countless gods and goddesses. These strong men sought to limit their power somewhat to test themselves by living among mortals. Life in Orario was especially difficult for these commoners, though they made their days easier by committing to some gods. Hestia Familia’s sole patron is the protagonist Bell Cranel, who aspires to be an adept adventurer.
Unfortunately for Bell, such an adventurer’s life is indeed hard and deadly, with anyone venturing into the cave “Dungeon” risking their lives for fortune and glory. Despite this, Bell kept walking, inspired by his lover, a female swordsman named Ais. Thankfully, he has quite a few lovely girls who want to be by his side during his quest – including the goddess Hestia herself.

DanMachi began as a light novel by Fujino Omori and Suzuhito Yasuda, although the former attempted to write it as a story at first called Familia Myth. The first volume came out in January 2013 and the series is still ongoing, so far a total of 17 volumes. A spin-off light novel series revolving around Ais titled Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side: Sword Oratoria begins a year after the original, and it has had 12 episodes so far. 2017 saw the release of the side story Familia Chronicle, which followed up with both other installments. All of these books will continue to be manga adaptations, along with special stories for the characters Lyu and Freya.

Where to Watch Anime DanMachi
JC Staff handled the anime adaptation for DanMachi, which began in 2015, two years after the original novel. JC Staff also adapted Sword Oratoria into a series, although it only had a 12-episode season in 2017.
