Demon Slayer (Demon Slayer) is the most popular Manga and Anime of 2020, with many different stories integrated in the episodes. The main setting is about man-eating demons, so tragic endings are inevitable.
With a large cast of characters who are linked with protagonist Tanjiro Kamado, it’s hard to guess which character will leave sooner. Let’s take a look at the most unfortunate deaths of heroes in Demon Slayer and find out what caused such an ending.
The Kamado family
In the early episodes, the Demon Slayer audience didn’t really care about the reason why the Kamado family was slaughtered. Few thought that this event was the beginning of a series of bloody endings that followed.
Tanjiro only became a Swordsman to protect and heal his sister Nezuko, who was turned into a demon by Muzan. Everything about the Kamado family has become really clear thanks to the flashbacks that Tanjiro recalls of his father, mother, and brothers.
They are all lovely, innocent characters but are hunted by Muzan. However, memories of the Kamado family are only interspersed in the flashbacks related to Tanjiro’s Breath of the Sun, unfortunately only this is noticed by the audience.
Technically, the death of members of the Kamado family has a strong impact on the film and it is like the beginning of the next episodes in Demon Slayer.
Demon Doctor Tamayo
Tamayo is one of the most gentle characters in Demon Slayer. Tamayo takes care and treats humans well without return, she is also one of the few demons that regret her actions in the past and is trying to atone for her mistakes.
But hidden deep in the kind and somewhat “mother-like” personality is a strong hatred for Muzan for a long time. That’s what really pushed Tamayo forward.
When Kagaya Ubuyashiki lured Muzan to his home, Tamayo was able to take advantage of this and was able to inject a “rapid aging drug” onto Muzan. This poison was made by her a long time ago and it has many effects, including turning demons back into humans.
Of course, due to Muzan’s extraordinary power, it didn’t work immediately and Tamayo was killed by Muzan shortly after she successfully injected the poison into his body.
But Tamayo has been planning this for a long time, she concocts the drug into several “stages” with different effects in case Muzan can resist.
Former Emperor Kuwajima Jigorou
Kuwajima Jigorou is the ex-Military Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, he is a very likable character. Kuwajima Jigorou is the one who raised and trained Zenitsu, a main character hated by many viewers.
Compared to Zenitsu, Jigorou is old, but he is very interesting and gentle. He loves Zenitsu like his own grandson, ignoring the boy’s cowardice and always helping others.
Jigorou’s death was really tragic, he was forced to perform the Seppuku ritual as a way of “atonement” when his former student Kaigaku betrayed the Demon Slayer Corps and became a demon.
Since there was no one else around when Jigorou performed the beheading ritual, he had to experience a slow and painful death.
The Ubuyashiki . clan
Infinite Fortress and Sunrise Countdown are the two main parts of Demon Slayer. These two parts gather a large number of main actors and are also where the main characters sacrifice the most.
The above two cover the final confrontation against Demon King Muzan and it begins with a bang. Rather, when Lord Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the head of the Demon Slayer Corps, lured Muzan into his home to destroy him.
This was the decisive action that helped Muzan fall into the trap created by the Demon Slayer Corps. After Ubuyashiki said what he wanted to say to Muzan, he blew up his estate. In other words, Ubuyashiki, his wife and two older daughters committed suicide to lure Muzan.
Although not able to kill Muzan, the damage and shock from this attack helped Tamayo inject Muzan with a fast aging drug, which was decisive for the death of the evil demon.
Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s self and family sacrifice was not in vain. However, the end of this beloved family was so tragic and sudden that viewers were “speechless”.
The Serpent Pillar Iguro Obanai and the Beam Pillar Kanroji Mitsuri
Iguro Obanai and Kanroji Mitsuri are the two Pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps, they are good friends. But the two only realize their true love for each other during the final battle against Muzan in Sunrise Countdown, and that is also the culmination of tragedy.
Both Obanai and Mitsuri gave their all in this battle and contributed greatly to the defeat of Demon Lord Muzan. But the tragic result is that both are sacrificed, they have no more time to be with the person they love.
Demon Slayer viewers had hoped that they would find each other in the afterlife. And in the film’s ending years later, there’s a couple who open a restaurant that recreates the same scene they had before.
Insect Pillar Kochou Shinobu
Kochou Shinobu holds the position of Worm Pillar in the Demon Slayer Corps, she is a character who always hides her true feelings behind a cheerful mask. Like Tamayo, Shinobu is warm and kind on the outside, but deep inside is a fire of hatred towards evil demons.
Tanjiro was the first to realize this. And then, in the battle with the High Priestess Douma, Shinobu revealed his true self.
Shinobu fell into Douma’s hands and was gradually swallowed by him. However, at the last moments, Chong Tru tried to signal to his successor, Tsuyuri Kanao, about what to watch out for Douma.
In addition, Shinobu also teamed up with Tamayo to find a way for himself to absorb the wisteria poison slowly and safely. This means that Douma absorbed seven hundred times the deadly dose of the wisteria poison when he tried to swallow Shinobu.
This is the key factor leading to the end of Upper Xuan Nhi Douma. But in return, the entire life of the Shinobu Pillar and this is a great loss in the hearts of the Demon Slayer audience.
Shinazugawa Genya
Shinazugawa Genya is one of the less popular characters in Demon Slayer, but audiences have gradually changed their attitude towards him. In the first appearance, Genya often bullies and quarrels with everyone around.
But in the face of Tanjiro’s kindness, Genya became a little more agreeable. And after viewers learned about the past of Genya and his brother, Wind Pillar Sanemi, they changed their minds about this slightly unruly guy.
But this is also what makes Genya’s departure sadder. Without being able to use any breathing style, Genya used most of his strength to defeat the Supreme Mystic Kokushibou with just normal sword stances.
After encountering Kokushibou, Genya was sacrificed and literally turned to ash in front of his brother Sanemi. Most Demon Slayer viewers assumed that one of the brothers would die, but most of them guessed that it was Sanemi.
Inflammation Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku
The departure of the Inflammatory Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku is definitely the saddest thing in Demon Slayer. Yan Pil is a masterful user of the Breath of Fire, and he also has the potential to become one of the most beloved characters of the entire series.
With the success of “The Endless Train”, Kyojuro Rengoku’s sacrifice would probably turn out to be the most tragic event even if the Demon Slayer had come to an end.
The most impressive scene in this part is the moments of Kyojuro and his dreams, which makes his death even sadder than ever.
Initially, the sacrifice of the Flame Pillar did not leave much emotion in the reader’s heart in the Manga version because it was simply a picture, with no movement, sound or anything else added.
But thanks to the great graphics of ufotable studio, this moment has been reproduced in the most complete and complete way in a movie invested with a huge budget. That made viewers even more regretful, even tearful, at the scene where Kyojuro finally smiled.
