Vegeta’s iconic battle armor from the Dragon Ball Z anime series has been faithfully recreated for Saiyan Day 2024.
Saiyan Day – celebrated every year on March 18 because “1” and “8” can be pronounced “Sa-i-ya” in Japanese – is taking place once again. To celebrate this special event, the official Dragon Ball website has revealed that they have created a real-life version of Vegeta’s Saiyan armor. According to the article, it took the Dragon Ball team 160 hours to create the amazing anime armor. The combat armor will be given away in a social media contest for the Japanese people.

As the writing team emphasized, recreating Vegeta’s battle armor was not easy. Artistic references from the source material were used to help the team conceptualize the armor as well as create finer details for the costume. It took a lot of time and patience to sew the costume together, but all the hard work paid off in the end. The final product looks like something that could be used in a live-action Dragon Ball movie… if it were successful enough to make it into the “Saiyan Saga.”
This recreation of Vegeta’s battle armor is a reminder of the incredible skills the anime cosplay community possesses when it comes to constructing and modeling their works of art. At Sakura-Con 2023, a talented female cosplayer transformed into a gender-swapped version of Vegeta in feminine battle armor. Of course, not all cosplay requires a lot of time and money. One Instagram user has proven that all one needs is passion and a sense of humor to pull off a memorable costume, as shown in his low-cost, intentionally fun cosplay Divine dragon Shenron.
