Here’s the spoiler synopsis for Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74, “Vegeta vs. Granolah.”
So far in “Granolah the Survivor Saga”, the famous Cerealian has used the incredible power bestowed by his planet’s Dragon Balls to completely crush his opponents. Most recently, Dragon Ball Super Chapter 73 saw Goku go head-to-head with Granolah, and while Goku seemed able to claim victory, Cerealian ultimately defeated even using the n8ng infinity. Then, with the help of a clever trick, Granolah turned the tide with a hit that hit his opponent’s vital point, taking Goku out of the fight. This then forces Vegeta to step in to save Goku and prove that his training with Beerus has truly raised him to the next level. And in Dragon Ball SuperChapter 74, the fight begins. Here’s a spoiler recap of what happened.
When Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74 begins, the Sugarians flee the planet as a result of the battle between Goku and Granolah. Granolah then reveals to Vegeta that he plans to use his powers to kill Freeza. The Saiyan Prince responded by saying that he no longer works with Freeza and that he truly considers him an enemy. However, Granolah thinks Vegeta is lying, having clearly never seen Dragon Ball Z. Later, the Cerealian finally confirmed that he would take revenge on the Saiyans for destroying his people, regardless of whether they participated in the actual attack or not.
“If that’s your stance,” Vegeta said, “why should I hold back?” Then vegeta gains strength and begins to attack Granolah with her destructive power. However, Granolah notices that Vegeta still has no special skills and is instead substituting any kind of power for an absolute number of attacks. The fight then begins in earnest, and Granolah deals some blows to Vegeta. However, the Saiyan Prince was still able to survive and was some distance away from the attacker.
After Granolah caught up with Vegeta, Cerealian eventually commented that the Saiyan was stronger than he expected, despite boasting that he was still “the strongest in the universe.” Vegeta is then ready to admit that Granolah is the stronger of them, but declares he will still win their battle. This confuses Granolah, who thinks Vegeta’s pride can make him. We don’t understand how serious our predicament really is.
As their fight continues, Goku wakes up to see Granolah once again hammering Vegeta. After several seemingly unsuccessful bursts of energy, Vegeta positioned himself in such a way that Granolah’s counterattack led him to destroy one of the last remnants of Cerealian City. This greatly annoyed Granolah, and Cerealian vowed to kill Vegeta.
However, the Saiyan Prince had good reason to trick Granolah into destroying the ruins of a Cerealian city. While Vegeta may not be stronger than Granolah, the Saiyan now knows that the last Cerealian has only recently acquired his powers and lacks the experience to use them effectively. Unfazed by Vegeta’s observations, Granolah declares that he does not need to train. “The strength I have makes me the strongest,” boasted Granolah. “It’s certain that I will win here today.”
Vegeta disagrees. The Saiyan Prince explains that he likes the fact that the battle is unpredictable and the outcome is never certain. Granolah then redoubled his efforts, and as the two fought, Vegeta revealed that he was actually getting stronger during their fight. This seems to have had some effect on Granolah, who decided to end the battle quickly and strike at one of Vegeta’s key points.
While Vegeta was able to keep the blow from hitting him completely, Granolah’s hit dealt enough damage to cause blood to gush out of the Saiyan Prince’s mouth. Vegeta loses power, but sentence still stands. Then he started laughing. “There’s no planet to protect. No people to save,” said the wounded Vegeta. “Only me, immersed in battle. My happy place. Just something for a war-crazed Saiyan.”
Realizing something is amiss, Granolah retreats as Vegeta begins to approach a new transformation that engulfs him in flames. Goku observes that this transformation changes Vegeta’s limb in a manner similar to that of Beerus, the God of Destruction that the Saiyan Prince trained with. Granolah ineffectively fired several blasts of energy at the pillar of fire, but nothing happened.
The transformation completely changed Vegeta’s body, making him thicker and more muscular. While his hair is still black, his eyebrows are gone, making his face reminiscent of Goku and the Gotenks’ Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Vegeta explained: “A God of Destruction taught me that power that comes from instinct alone has no limits. Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74 doesn’t give this transformation any name, but it’s clear that this is something unlike anything Vegeta has approached before.
As Dragon Ball Super Chapter 74 ends, Vegeta’s fight with Granolah is far from over. Cerealian’s ultimate powers make him the strongest warrior in Universe 7, but his wish comes with a warning that he will not be stronger than those with divine abilities. Since Vegeta’s chi is now reminiscent of Beerus’ chi, the Saiyan Prince looks set to cause some major havoc in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 75.
The battle between Vegeta and Granolah will continue in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 75, which releases on August 18 via Viz Media.
