It took author Akira Toriyama 36 years to reveal to us many hidden secrets in his greatest work, Dragon Ball. The Japanese mangaka has shown us Mr.'s unprecedented uniqueness. Popo – a genie who acts as an assistant to the guardian deity of the Earth.
Mr. Popo is one of the most mysterious characters that Dragon Ball has had in its entire history.
His first appearance was in volume 163 of the manga, published on August 30, 1988.
Goku completed his training cycle with Master Roshi and Master Karin. So he sought out a much greater god to prepare for the twenty-third Martial Arts Tournament (Budokai Tenkaichi), Kami Sama.
For those who don't remember, Goku's first visit to the Holy Temple was truly terrifying, after his brutal battle with Piccolo Daimaku. This place is completely alone and completely quiet. That's when Mr. Popo first appeared in Dragon Ball.
He said nothing and no one understood what was going on. Mr. Popo looks like a creature from another planet, with dark skin, very red lips, and round eyes. He wears an outfit similar to Arabic cultural expressions, including a turban on his head.
Over time, visits to the Holy Temple became more and more frequent. And although Kami Sama is no longer in power, since he has merged back with Piccolo, Mr. Popo continues to work as an assistant to the new god Dende.
During the past 36 years, we have never seen Mr. Popo without a turban. It wasn't until now, the second episode of Dragon Ball Daima, that Dragon Ball fans got to see Mr. Popo. And surprisingly, on his head there was a pair of small horns.
