The spin-off manga gives Yamcha time to shine
Yamcha is the first character to fall in the Saiyan story against a self-destructing Saibamen. With that knowledge, students prepared by undergoing similar training as Goku did in the Dragon Ball series, like training with Roshi and Korin. However, he went even further when he flew to Namek and asked the Grand Elder Guru to unlock his hidden potential. He even trained with Nail, who later merged with Piccolo. The training and knowledge paid off significantly as Yamcha was able to defeat the entire Saibamen on his own. Such stark differences in the original story made this joke character one of the most useful Z fighters in their darkest hour.
Unlike the original events of Dragon Ball Z, no Earth defenders are killed in Yamcha’s spin-off manga. In the final battle, Yamcha can hold his own against Vegeta until he tricked the Saiyan Prince into thinking that Beerus, Dragon Ball Super’s God of Destruction, was on Earth. That moment of confusion was all it took for the strongest human Dragon Ball warrior to kick Vegeta into the air to be caught in the last bit of Goku’s energy in a Kamehameha wave. Even with knowledge of the entire series, students can only train Yamcha’s powers to a certain limit. However, it is enough to make a difference.
Yamcha defeating Vegeta is a great moment of redemption
Without revealing too much of the gag manga’s unique story, the student continued to live as Yamcha for many years. Several twists and a surprising final battle with an unexpected enemy tie up the short series nicely. However, Yamcha defeated Vegeta in his pursuit of marrying Bulma, so the Saiyan was unable to make significant changes to his lover. Dragon ball plot. Dragon Ball: That time I was reincarnated as Yamcha is an interesting What-If scenario that ultimately allows Yamcha to make a difference instead of being blown up by the Saibamen or stabbed in the chest by Dr. Gero’s Andriod #20.
