What happened in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode #7?
In issue #7, Frieren, Fern, and Stark arrive at a town in the Northern Lands where peace negotiations are underway with the demons after a long series of battles. Upon seeing these demonic messengers, Frieren intended to kill them but was stopped by the town’s knights and thrown into a dungeon. The town’s lord then tried to kill the demons to avenge his son, but they managed to get away with it with a fabricated story. Since the nearly immortal Frieren was the only one left who knew their true demonic nature, one of the young demons descended into the dungeon and confronted her in her cell, ready to kill her.

With the surprise ending of episode #7, episode #8 will likely begin with the battle between the demon and Frieren. However, if Frieren is as strong as she says, this may not be an even battle. With the demon dead, this may cause some more tension between Frieren and the town’s lord, who has recently pledged to engage in peace negotiations with the demon emissaries. It could also awaken him that the demons do not want peace and cause him to try to kill the other messengers. Regardless, there’s sure to be plenty of conflict with these intriguing new villains as the revolutionary fantasy anime Frieren explores them further.
Now that the demons have been introduced and their true nature explained, it will be interesting to see how the series uses them in the future. Given that Frieren and her party are currently in the Northern Lands, it is likely that they will continue to encounter them even after leaving the town they are currently in. Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End Episode #8 thus setting an important precedent for how Frieren deals with these enemies that will likely continue for the rest of the series.
