What happened in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode17?
Episode 17 tells about Sein’s decision to leave the group to search for his friend, which was set up in the previous episode. However, before leaving Frieren, Stark, Fern and Sein were all trapped together for a month by a sudden blizzard. Their time together was a nice send-off for Sein, who helped resolve the argument between Fern and Stark, which hinted at their growing feelings for each other. Sein’s passing was also incredibly poignant as he noticed how quiet traveling alone was compared to traveling with Frieren’s group. The rest of the episode features Frieren and Stark helping Fern recover from her illness before they leave for the city where Frieren will have to get her Mage certification.
The episode also has an excellent new OP and ED.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Episode 18 Will Begin the Mage Exam
Episode 18 is titled “First Class Mage Exam”, implying that Frieren and her friends will finally reach the city they were heading towards since they defeated the intriguing demons that were threatening the land of Granat many episodes ago. Once there, they will have to pass an official exam upon arrival in the city, which is relatively easy to do for a mage of Frieren’s caliber. However, it might be a bit more difficult for Fern if she tries to pull it off, as she is a bit less proficient than her mentor. Frieren and Fern will also likely face judgment from the magicians who live in the city and take the test, which could open up another avenue of conflict.
With the chapter’s new prologue providing hints about the many characters ahead in Außerst, the promise of a new installment will be more exciting than ever. While Frieren was revolutionary for its more episodic structure, its longer arcs were also excellent. When Freezing: Beyond Journey’s End episode #18 airing on Crunchyroll on Friday, January 12, it will hopefully prove that this upcoming storyline is no exception.
