The anime has sold over 74,000 tickets since its premiere on February 18
Kodoani.com – The Mantan website of the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper on Tuesday revealed that the compilation film Fruits Basket -prelude– grossed over 130 million yen (about US$1.12 million) in its first 18 days in theaters. The anime sold over 74,000 tickets in that time period.
Theatergoers can receive one of two postcards drawn by character designer Masaru Shindō, starting Friday at select theaters. The postcards feature Tohru with Kyō and Yuki as animals or Kyoko and Katsuya.
The film opened in 25 theaters in Japan on February 18, and sold 20,000 tickets in its first two days, grossing 33 million yen (about US$287,000). The film topped the mini theater chart for the two-day weekend February 19-20.
The series includes the Kyoko to Katsuya no Monogatari (Kyoko and Katsuya’s Story) anime revolving around the back story of Tohru’s parents Kyoko and Katsuya, which the 2019-2021 anime series did not adapt. The series also includes new scenes – written specifically for the film by original manga author Natsuki Takaya – depicting the events following the television anime’s story. In addition, moviegoers who watch the film between February 18 and March 4 will receive a 20-page booklet with a 16-page epilogue composed by Takaya.
The voice cast and staff in 2019-2021 at TMS Entertainment returned to participate in the anime. Miyuki Sawashiro voices Kyoko Honda and Yoshimasa Hosoya voices Katsuya Honda. The film’s Blu-ray Disc release had the same release date.
Ōhashi Trio performed the anime’s theme song “Niji to Kaito” (Rainbow and Kite).
