Developer Genshin Impact has just filed a lawsuit against Twitter, asking the company to provide information about the leakers who leaked the content of the game.
Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse has filed a subpoena against Twitter, ordering the social media platform to provide information to three users who regularly disclose content from the game. HoYoverse’s flagship RPG has enjoyed massive success since its launch in September 2020 with the game catching fire and exploding in internet popularity.

Genshin Impact regularly sees records being set with each new character release with banners even earning tens of millions for HoYoverse. However, coexisting with the attraction of the game is a group of leakers day and night releasing information taken from internal data to attract the attention of the community.

Since the game was released, Genshin Impact has cultivated a large community of leakers who share details about the closed beta testing of each new version. Players are often treated to a wealth of information about upcoming updates just days after the beta release of a new version, with some even sharing content from far into the future.
The developer has been regularly targeting commonly used social networking platforms like Discord, Twitter,… and combating the growing flow of leaked content. Now, HoYoverse has targeted Twitter as the next target to track leakers.

A recent subpoena shows HoYoverse targeting Twitter and asking the platform for information on three major Genshin Impact leakers. The document asks Twitter to turn over some identifying information including the names, phone numbers and IP addresses of leakers including Merlin Impact, Genshin World and XWides. HoYoverse previously asked Twitter to remove the post of these three leakers, claiming that it infringes the developer’s copyright on Genshin Impact. HoYoverse has previously taken a tough stance against leaks, bans or even sues users for disclosing content prior to its release.
HoYoverse’s latest action against the game’s leaker community comes as the developer has seen significant new content leak in recent months. A major leak regarding future content has shown players some of the first designs for the game’s Fontaine characters. Fontaine is not expected to be released until late summer or early fall with Genshin Impact still rumored to be added to the previous Sumeru map. Other leaks from Fontaine have given players an idea of the layout of the area, as well as some of the structures found in the area inspired by France.

While the leaks suggest that Genshin Impact content will come out much later, HoYoverse recently let fans know what they can expect in the next version of the game. The livestream for version 3.5 last week officially revealed the gameplay for the two newest Genshin Impact characters, Dehya and Mika.
