Although it has not been released yet, players can fully learn about Kaveh and Alhaitham in advance through the messages they leave each other in the game.
Kaveh was only recently announced in the game’s Genshin Impact 3.2 update. In it, he had a heated argument with Alhaitham before leaving. Although the Traveler hasn’t had any interactions with him yet, things are subject to future updates.
Genshin Impact is known for releasing details about its characters long before they’re playable. Most of the time, they are introduced as NPCs that have some sort of role in the main plot. However, in other cases, HoYoverse even leaves small hints about its characters scattered throughout the game world. Kaveh is an example of this; before he first appeared as an NPC, there were messages sent to him in different areas of Sumeru.
When the Sumeru area was first released in Genshin Impact, the area was packed with places to explore and items to interact with. However, the message board can be one of the last priorities for players (except for players who love to dig into the game’s plot). It turns out that these bulletin boards hold interesting information about different characters. Some mentioned Cyno, and one even called the Yae Publishing House from Inazuma. Finally, three different message boards allude to Kaveh and his heated arguments with Alhaitham.
The first bulletin board can be found in Port Ormos, across the bridge from the teleport point. A text regarding an argument between Alhaitham and Kaveh broke out here. It begins with a troubled craftsman thinking about how their skills are no longer needed as the Akasha network can easily teach people how to build and maintain merchant ships. The craftsman later mentioned that the Clerk, or Alhaitham himself, had told them to find work elsewhere, but they lacked the funds for their journey.
Another person then interjected – Kaveh – saying he knew someone in need of craftsmen and they should ignore the Clerk. Alhaitham replied, telling Kaveh not to get involved in “nonsense.” He went on to say that certain people are bound to fail, while others will succeed; that’s how the world works. Kaveh vehemently denies this, dismissing Alhaitham’s belief in the survival of the fittest and the clinging, instead, with ideas of “reciprocity, justice, and anger.” justifiable”. The exchange ended with Alhaitham questioning the state of Kaveh’s budget.
It seems that Kaveh is the more empathetic of the two, which is not surprising since Kaveh and Alhaitham are two opposing characters in Genshin Impact. This is even more evident in the second message board, found at the Puspa Cafe in Sumeru Castle. Here, Kaveh and Alhaitham again argue about the value of art. While Kaveh believes in appreciating art for the sake of art, Alhaitham views it as nothing more than a commodity and when it ceases to offer material value, it becomes meaningless. Kaveh replied disappointedly, “That’s why I always despise pragmatists like you.” The exchange then ended with Alhaitham paying for Kaveh’s alcohol bill.
What is interesting here is that the words of both men seem to contradict their actions. Although Alhaitham was the first to make claims about the survival of the fittest, it was he who welcomed a bankrupt Kaveh into his home, and didn’t seem to ask for anything in return. any. In contrast, while Kaveh clearly has a more prominent moral ideal, he can’t seem to escape his troubles, as he showed in the final message board in Genshin Impact.

The final dialogue involving these two characters can be found on the Mahamata Bulletin Board at Sumeru Castle. This was the shortest of the three exchanges and it involved Alhaitham and the tavern owner. Alhaitham asks about the barrels of wine he ordered only to find out that Kaveh has taken them all. So while Kaveh is quick to help those in need, he seems to have no problem taking Alhaitham’s stuff without notifying him. Both of these characters seem to have very interesting interactions with each other that players can learn more about in the future.
