Independent developer Mr. Pink has launched Golden Light of Rose, a prequel to the monstrous horror game Golden Light in 2022.
After a year-long early access campaign, the wildly bizarre roguelike survival horror title Golden Light launched on Steam in early 2022. Developed by indie developer Mr. Pink, the game that has made waves in the indie game world due to its unique mechanics and unique approach to horror storytelling. Now that the finished game has been open for sale, the developer has shifted its focus to other projects, and one of them is a prequel to Golden Light called Golden Light of Rose.
Golden Light of Rose sees it become a very similar experience to the first game, where players will delve into a monstrous maze known as The Gut and search for weapons, keys, and allies. friendly while hunting a multitude of terrible creatures. It’s a surreal mechanic that follows game design rules commonly applied in other weird indie games like Inscryption.
Of course, just like the first game, Golden Light of Rose introduces a unique co-op mode. While most co-op titles like It Takes Two or Cuphead focus on teamwork and friendship, the upcoming Golden Light prequel will probably test people’s personalities against situations. more difficult. The division and scramble for scarce resources between two players creates some particularly gruesome gameplay scenarios if not careful.
As prominent as Golden Light is, the announcement of a sequel shortly after the release of the first title came as a bit of a surprise. Mr. Pink is primarily known for works that don’t have many installments or series, but Golden Light’s ambiguous nature and plot make it a contender for a sequel. Golden Light of Rose will tell the story of a character who was a key player in the first game, but despite being related to the first game, the number of players who can figure out all the intricacies of the plot and being able to fully appreciate the Golden Light story is relatively few.
Co-op horror roguelike titles are still a rarity, even in an era completely saturated with titles where the player dies and is reborn in a recreated map. Golden Light and its upcoming prequel will share this new “roguelike horror” genre with Returnal and promise to deliver an equally unique experience.
