The series previously inspired a 52-episode 1993 anime
Kodoani.com – The 24th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine revealed on Wednesday that the manga “Yaiba” by Gōshō Aoyama will be adapted into a new anime, with Aoyama supervising.
The series follows Yaiba Kurogane, a young samurai boy inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, a famous swordsman in real history who pioneered the two-sword fighting style Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū and wrote Five Rings, a classic work of military strategy.
Aoyama launched the series in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in September 1988 and ended it in December 1993, with a total of 24 compiled volumes.
The series inspired a 52-episode anime adaptation from April 1993 to April 1994.
The character is frequently mentioned in Aoyama's “Detective Conan” series, and even appeared in the OVA “Conan vs. Kid vs. Yaiba – The Grand Battle for the Treasure Sword!!” in 2000.
