There’s been a lot of talk about Grand Theft Auto 6 lately and the rumors are growing, including rumors about the main characters.
With Bethesda pulling back on The Elder Scrolls 6, the Rockstar sequel to GTA 5 from 2013 is a long time coming. Naturally, there have been a lot of rumors, leaks, and general fan theories about what the sequel to the open-world gaming franchise will contain. There is also a report that the original GTA 6 will be much larger than it actually is.
That’s according to Axios, as spotted by PCGamesN. According to the source, Grand Theft Auto 6 will initially be built on three cities and feature four main characters. However, the report goes on to say that everything has been scaled down. Having four playable characters must be a lot of fun, especially considering the intricately intertwined lives of the three main characters in GTA 5. Of course, it should be said that this information is not yet available. confirmed by Rockstar, but it wouldn’t be too surprising that the original developer wanted to do something ambitious that later had to be trimmed back.
For now, it looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 will have two main characters, possibly influenced by Bonnie and Clyde. One character will be female, representing the first time a woman has been playable in a GTA game. In addition, there are also many suggestions that the new game will take place in Vice City, the location of the beloved 2002 game in the series.
Rockstar has yet to release any specifics about the game, the story, or when the title will release. However, another report indicates that Grand Theft Auto 6 may have been in development since 2014. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has said that the studio started developing it “in some form” not long after GTA. 5 release.
Given the sheer popularity and massive success of Grand Theft Auto 5, not to mention it’s been nine years since it’s been out, many might be surprised that Rockstar didn’t jump at the chance to release a sequel. However, there is also GTA Online to consider, which is a major monetization tool for developers. As a result, the company was perhaps a little hesitant to move forward as their current games are proving to be still interesting, even now. That and the departure of the company’s co-founder and chairman Dan Houser in 2020 may also have slowed progress.
