A new report has revealed information about the setting and protagonist of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 is in development since February, although the game’s release date and platform have yet to be revealed.
There have been many rumors circulating about GTA 6 over the past few years, one persistent rumor being that GTA 6 will have a female protagonist in the story mode. GTA 5’s GTA Online allows players to create a female character, but there hasn’t been a female lead in the Grand Theft Auto series, in both main and spinoffs. Rumors regarding a new GTA 6 setting have also been popping up all over the place, although one persistent rumor has mentioned a return to Vice City.
Details about GTA 6 are now rife online, as part of a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier detailing the debunking of the frat boy culture that was once present in Rockstar Games. According to the report, GTA 6 will be set in Miami, which suggests that Vice City will be part of the game, even if it’s only part of the map. There will be two main characters in GTA 6, which is a pair of bank robbers inspired by Bonnie and Clyde. One of these main characters is said to be Latina, who will be the first playable female protagonist in GTA history.
However, this information has not been confirmed by Rockstar Games, so gamers should not expect too much from them.
As reported by Schreier, the plan for GTA 6 is to have a large map that makes the maps of the previous installments look small, which would be impressive, given the size of the map in GTA 5. However, these plans have been dropped and the game now features an area that serves to convey a fictionalized version of Miami and its surrounding areas. The aim is that Rockstar Games will add to the map over time, with new missions and cities made possible through updates. GTA Online’s incredible financial success (which continues to bring in big money for Rockstar) may have prompted this decision, as the game still has a thriving online community to this day and GTA 6 have the opportunity to build an even more impressive world.
It’s unclear when exactly fans will get a chance to experience GTA 6 (the report refers to previous analysts’ speculation that it could release in 2024 by Take-Two), as the process development is reported to be progressing slowly, especially as it has been affected by the pandemic. GTA Online continues to be a money machine, so there’s no rush to dismiss the game. Initial reports seem like Grand Theft Auto VI will be the biggest and most impressive installment in the series to date.
