New manga listed with Genius in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine
Digital retailer Honya Club on its list for this year’s 42nd edition of Akita Shoten is the magazine Weekly Shonen Champion, the magazine where Rensuke Oshikiri will launch a manga with a new title Genius in this issue. The edition will be released on September 16.
Oshikiri launched the Hi Score Girl manga in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine in 2010 and ended it in September 2018. Square Enix published the manga’s tenth and final volume on March 25. Square Enix Manga & Books is publishing the manga in English .
Oshikiri launched the Hi Score Girl DASH spin-off in Big Gangan in December 2019. The series focuses on the character Koharu Hidaka, a nearly 30-year-old high school teacher in 2007.
The first season of the television anime adaptation of the main manga premiered in Japan in July 2018. Netflix began streaming the show outside of Japan in December 2018. Anime video episodes (OVAs) The original was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in Japan in March 2019 along with a new eight-page manga by Oshikiri. New episodes also began streaming on Netflix on the same day. The nine-episode second season premiered in Japan in May 2019. The series premiered on Netflix in April 2020.
Oshikiri held a crowdfunding campaign from October to December 2019 for his mini anime project The House Spirit Tatami-chan. The anime premiered in April 2020, and is director Oshikiri’s debut in the anime. He also drew art, wrote scripts, and drafted original character designs. Crunchyroll was streaming the anime as it aired.
