The following contains the reveal for Episode 12 of Chainsaw Man, “KATANA VS. CHAINSAW”, currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
As the first season of Chainsaw Man continues, Denji finds life with the Public Safety Unit in Japan far more tedious than he assumed. He thinks he will fulfill his military service, kill the Devil and the Devil, get paid, and move in with his boss, Makima. The job turned out to be quite difficult, however, resulting in heroes like Himeno dying when the Samurai Swordsman (aka Katana Man) led an ambush against Denji’s crew.
Fortunately, Denji has risen above and unlocked more power, as well as humanity within to fight the opposition and stop the first wave. That helps him have Kobeni to help him, as well as Hayakawa, a tutor who eventually comes to trust Denji, despite battling his own depression before Himeno’s death. Use the Power of the husky, and Denji finally has the family he needs to strengthen his feelings. Interestingly, with clues regarding the person who hired the Sword, aka Gun Devil, many themes have been raised to tease an equally bloody second season.
Chainsaw Man Season 2 must solve Pochita’s door
Denji ended Chainsaw Man Season 1 peacefully after brutally defeating Sword, but he still saw a mysterious door in his dream. It is connected to his and Pochita’s relationship, but while Denji wants to open it, the dog begs him not to. This suggests that the stubborn Denji will attempt to do so in Season 2, which could give him more of Pochita’s powers—or worse, reveal the dog’s true nature.
It can reveal Pochita as a destroyer, stopping its corrupt instincts that can poison Denji and make him bad. Either way, Season 2 is sure to plunge into temptation and whether Denji is meant to be anything more than a heroic vessel. If so, he could lose himself and become a threat that even his co-workers or Makima can’t stop. This could lead to huge bombshells as to why Denji’s heart is being hunted by enemies and his Devil’s true intentions.
Chains Man’s gun hunt is going to be messy
Lucky Makima got a lot of Gun’s meat from the hotel where Sword and Sawatari stayed. She can use her team to track down the villain and hope to take down the terrorist forever. This can yield more Makima for a direct hunt, allowing her to use her ability. More than that, the hunt will reveal whether Makima is really a hero, whether she is using the legion for her evil purposes, and whether Japan can be trusted. .
It has been suggested that Russia, Asia and the Americas are vying for power, so her choices in Chainsaw Man Season 2 could shed light on the political intrigues and dark truths behind it all. these ongoing wars, with Gun at its center. If so, it would cause Denji, Hayakawa and Co. wondering if they chose the right side. Interestingly, group of co-workers like Suicide Squad with Angels, Sharks, etc. can activate Team Denji, if they think the heroes don’t want to join the program and do anything to keep it. Japan is at the top.
Chainsaw Man must level up Denji & Power
Lucky Denji managed to trick Sword in battle, unlocking a saw from his foot to slash the tyrant. This means he has untapped potential for their new teacher, Kishibe, to tap. Strength must also improve turning her health into daggers etc, as she has limitations on how much she can use. This paved the way for Kishibe to use their recent victory, energizing them and freeing their minds, so that they could be physically better in battle.
All they need is confidence, and since Hayakawa is more of a big brother than a manager, this is good. Just as Denji harnesses Pochita’s power, Power will have to be careful; There are still many unknowns about the Blood Fiend she contracted with. If Kishibe pushes her too hard, she can be possessed, allowing the contract to turn her into a weapon of mass destruction. Of course, it’s a risk Kishibe is willing to take as he just wants evil soldiers, which could make him even more shady.
Chainsaw Man will unleash new and old villains
Season 1 of Chainsaw Man ended with Reze (aka Bomber Girl) teasing Denji. Without spoiling too much, she made Denji fall in love with her in the manga, so Denji could see his attention shift from Makima, causing him to leave his game. This can give Reze and other vile Demons/Monsters, such as the unseen Storm Demon, a big advantage. Also, with Sawatari being eaten by a Snake to keep Gun’s secret intact, it means that the Snake can bond with some of these other enemies, giving Denji some dynamic new enemies.
There was even a possibility that Sword, who was currently being held captive, was rescued. Gun wants revenge for Denji killing his loved ones, burying his precious body parts and sending him to prison. So it’s easy to see Sword leveling up, working with other villains, and doing whatever it takes to be Gun’s ultimate apprentice, especially since he often kicks Denji’s ass on the field. Either way, Gun has many minions and hybrids to help Sword, hinting that Denji’s explosive journey has only just begun.
Chainsaw Man Season 2 can break Hayakawa
Hayakawa becomes obsessed with hunting Gun for killing his family, and then sends Sawatari to finish off Himeno. However, while he seems satisfied with Denji and Power, a large part of Hayakawa is in the dark. Season 2 of Chainsaw Man must now assess the deal he made with the Devil of the Future, and how that will affect him since the monster knows when Hayakawa will die.
In essence, this death sentence means that Hayakawa’s clock is running slowly, which could lead to him making rash decisions to be punished. It can even damage his relationship with his ‘siblings’, prompting him to contract other beings outside the Foxes, and unravel the desperate inner fragments that agents are always trying to bury. Ultimately, this will be a mental and physical test for the swordsman, which may require Denji and Power to mature and transition into Hayakawa’s caretaker.
