Each prefecture in Japan has its own culture and fashion, which can be very different from the usual trends in Tokyo. Silver Link Studios takes us to Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture, and presents a fun yet romantic anime series with Nobunaga Shimazaki and Ayane Sakura as the voice actors.
As the name suggests, Hokkaido girls are super cute takes place in Hokkaido, where 16-year-old Tsubasa Shiki feels awkward and lonely after moving to this new place and having no local friends. Shiki’s life changes for the better when he accidentally meets Gyaru/Gal, a girl who follows a certain fashion subculture.
Despite the cold winds and constant snowfall, this girl, who was named Minami Fuyuki, was still standing in the snow with bare feet and without gloves. Although at first Shiki did not like the way Fuyuki acted and convinced himself that she was not his type, he eventually began to love her after hanging out with her all this time.
Masayoshi Oishi performs the opening theme songs, while voice actors include Nobunaga Shimazaki as Tsubasa Shiki, Ayne Sakura as Minami, Yumiri Hanamori as Sayuri and Reina Ueda as Rena Tsukawa .
Introduction to Anime
Tsubasa Shiki’s life takes a completely new turn when he moves to Hokkaido and accidentally meets a local Gyaru who has a crush on him. Upon arriving at his new school, Tsubasa accidentally meets Minami Fuyuki, an outgoing, popular girl who is also his classmate.
Seeing her standing in the freezing cold weather without socks or gloves impressed Tsubasa, but because Minami is very outgoing, he tries to keep his distance from her. Back in Tokyo, Tsubasa was considered a loser and none of his friends remembered him after he left.
Minami also attended Kitami Hokuryo High School and is a follower of the Gyaru culture, similar to the Gal culture in America. With her blonde hair, short skirt and cheerful personality, Minami is undeniably one of the popular girls at school and has many friends.
After meeting Tsubasa, Minami develops feelings for him, because of how different he is from her and how ignorant he is about Hokkaido culture. Even though Tsubasa is not a fan of Minami’s personality, her trying to become his friend makes his heart flutter and he realizes Minami is more than just a popular high school girl .
With other friends like Sayuri, Rena and Asuka in her life, the story completely revolves around Tsubasa adapting to her new life in Hokkaido with Minami. Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable is not a harem anime, but it has many female characters that can sometimes stand out more than the main female character.
Nobunaga Shimazaki, the voice actor for Tsubasa, also voices characters such as Yuki in Fruits Basket, Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen, and young Shanks in One Piece. Ayane Sakura, who voices Minami, was the voice actress for Kaya Saimori in My Happy Wedding and Gabi in Attack On Titan.
