After surviving a near-death experience caused by a carriage falling off a cliff, Elisabeth began to recover somewhat. Kirstan also took the blame for Elisabeth’s condition and promised to protect her from this point forward. The relationship between Elisabeth and Kirstan begins to blossom and we can only expect more such heartfelt moments between these two as the series moves forward!
It was just a contract marriage. Chapter 20 opens with Kirstan preparing Elisabeth for a bath. He took Elisabeth’s hand and told her not to harm herself because he couldn’t feel secure when she did something reckless. Elisabeth thought that Kirstan would not leave her even if she hurt him but this only made her sad because Kirstan took care of her as if she were a child.
Summarize
Kirstan then removed Elisabeth’s clothes and immediately covered her to avoid being seen. Elisabeth looked at Kirstan’s tense expression and wondered if there was something that made him angry. Then Elisabeth went to take a bath.
While taking a shower, Elisabeth thought about how she felt at that time. Elisabeth did not understand what was happening to her body and she wondered if Andrei had anything to do with it. Kirstan calls Elisabeth and tells her that she can tell him if she needs anything.
Elisabeth hesitated for a bit but eventually she asked Kirstan if he was angry with her. Kirstan couldn’t understand how Elisabeth came to this conclusion so she explained that Kirstan’s actions and voice towards her had become tougher than before.
At first, Kirstan does not answer Elisabeth and so Elisabeth tells him that he has every right to be angry with her seeing how much trouble she has caused so far because of the evil people who have targeted her. Elisabeth begins to cry thinking of how much trouble she has caused Kirstan but Kirstan suddenly tells her that he is not angry.
Kirstan reminded Elisabeth of their contract, which mentioned that he would protect Elisabeth while she guaranteed his succession. Kirstan said according to the contract agreement, this whole incident was his fault because he entrusted Elisabeth’s safety to someone else.
Kirstan tells Elisabeth that if she is angry then she can direct all her anger towards him. Kirstan thinks it would be foolish to give in to his urges and leave the Front Line. It was Kirstan’s impulsiveness that made him feel bothered by the greed that the Uzhil Kingdom directed towards Elisabeth.
Kirstan didn’t want to see Elisabeth humiliated again so he thought her carriage falling off the cliff was a kind of blessing in disguise. Kirstan sighed and told Elisabeth that it happened because he forgot which side was more important.
Kirstan reassures Elisabeth that he will be more careful in the future so she won’t have to worry anymore. Elisabeth approaches Kirstan and asks him if she is important to him. Kirstan tells Elisabeth that of all the people he has protected so far, she is the most precious to him.
Kirstan also assured Elisabeth that she would be of equal value to him throughout the six-month contract period. Elisabeth hugs Kirstan and tells him that if he really considers her precious then he should stop pushing her away whenever she tries to hold him because she has no one else to hold on to.
Elisabeth thinks that the contract with Kirstan is all she has now because she has lost everything else in her life. She thought that if Kirstan had left her, she would have died by drowning in the river.
Elisabeth looked at Kirstan and saw nothing but thorny paths, lake bottoms, and dangerous cliffs, but she knew that there was no safer place in the world than being next to Kirstan.
Elisabeth holds Kirstan and asks him to promise her that he will never entrust her safety to anyone other than him. Kirstan hesitated for a moment then came closer and promised Elisabeth that he would always protect her.
