The Final Fantasy VII game’s English Twitter account announced on Tuesday that the Japan Commemorative Association, an organization that documents culturally important dates, has officially recognized January 31 as “” Final Fantasy VII Day”. The anniversary of the game’s original Japanese release was on January 31, 1997.

The game’s director Yoshinori Kitase commented that the game’s release “marks a time when a lot of big things are starting to move for those of us who work on the game.” He also commented that he is overwhelmed by the rapid development of video game technology and is excited for the future.
“With the establishment of this official anniversary, I will now always keep these things in mind and hold them in my heart.”
The game’s Japanese Twitter account is celebrating the occasion with an Amazon gift card sweepstakes featuring commemorative art. To participate, you must download the Final Fantasy VII title and logo provided on the anniversary website, place them on your Twitter account, follow the @FFVIIR_CLOUD account and retweet any of its tweets with hashtags # ファイナルファンタジーVIIの日 (“Final Fantasy Day VII”). The campaign will end on February 6th at 11:59pm. JST and you will lose your eligibility if you change your Twitter title and logo before that time. Winners will be contacted via Twitter Direct Message.
This latest Twitter campaign is the fourth of seven planned giveaways to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary.
