Despite the unfortunate week off from publication that is hindering them and the issue’s release, fans are still eager to see Jujutsu Kaisen Chap 248 continue the story. While author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s original manga series is famous for leaving fans breathless, this statement seems as true as it can be right now.
When entering Jujutsu Kaisen Chap 248, fans’ top concern is the status of Hiromi Higuruma, whom Sukuna seemingly killed in the final moments of the previous season. Likewise, the long-term status of the Execution Sword is another major concern for fans, especially since Yuji Itadori is about to attack Sukuna with it.
Although the actual release Jujutsu Kaisen Chap 248 will likely clarify both points for fans, but the editor’s preview for the upcoming release may have already teased those answers. According to this latest preview, it appears that Yuji has indeed “inherited” the Executioner Sword from Higuruma.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 248 may set up Yuji to inherit the will of another mentor, in physical form
As mentioned above, the tease that Yuji actually inherited Higuruma’s Execution Sword comes from the editor’s notes preview for Chapter 248 Jujutsu Kaisen. While these notes are notorious for being misleading, especially when they relate to other series, they are also known to accurately foreshadow upcoming events.
Likewise, if the tease from the editor’s note is indeed true, there are some interesting implications for the near future of the series. First, the Executioner’s Sword remains the best chance of rescuing Megumi Fushiguro, and its continued existence means there is still hope for Megumi’s return. Given Megumi’s status as a fan-favorite character, this is obviously extremely important.
Yuji has the Executioner’s Sword clear and through Jujutsu Kaisen Chap 248 will also likely delay the full explanation and use of his new Cursed Technique. While Yuji will likely use the Executioner’s Sword when possible, his main focus will clearly be hitting Sukuna with the Sword to rescue Megumi and end the fight.
There’s also the fact that the Sword’s continued existence could have a major impact on what fans know about Cursed Energies, Domain Expansion, etc. if Higuruma dies. If the Executioner’s Sword can continue to exist despite the death of Higuruma, whose Technique gave birth to it, then this weapon will become one of the most powerful in the series.
However, the path is more likely to Jujutsu Kaisen Chap 248 addressing that issue is the revelation that Higuruma is still alive and barely clinging to life. This creates further drama, giving Yuji a countdown to how long he has the Sword before it expires. Fans will also be caught up in the fight as Higuruma is considered a fan favorite character.
Although Higuruma could heal himself with the Reverse Curse Technique, it would be said that he lacked the energy to even begin the process as it was. Letting Higuruma heal himself negates the sacrifice and passes the torch to Yuji, as seen in the previous issue. As a result, it appears that Yuji will indeed inherit the Executioner’s Sword, but only for a limited and short period of time.
