Higuruma entrusted Sukuna’s execution to Yuji
Although it remains unclear whether Higuruma is dead or not, the final panels of this chapter do not paint a hopeful picture as Higuruma falls down in a large pool of blood. This chapter even cruelly recalls Nanami’s death in Shibuya. Yuji remembers Nanami’s last moments when he made eye contact with Higuruma for what could be the last time. That being said, Higuruma’s death opens up the possibility of increasing Yuji’s chances against Sukuna.
Chapter #247 includes a special conversation between Kusakabe and Higuruma right before he throws the Execution Sword to Yuji. The two discuss why some curses become stronger instead of weaker after death, implying that Yuji was able to use the Executioner’s Sword for a short time, even after Higuruma’s death.
In reality, Higuruma’s techniques can even be enhanced after his death due to the strong connection between death and cursed energy. Higuruma may have planned to die from the beginning of the battle, as he often mentioned fulfilling his role and died in the same capacity throughout the battle.
