Warning! Contains MAJOR spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga!!!
As one of the darkest Shonen manga currently published, Jujutsu Kaisen no stranger to brutal deaths. Unlike other series that seem to give their heroes armor to prevent them from dying, Jujutsu Kaisen will kill them almost nonchalantly. This is part of what makes mangaka Gege Akutami’s masterpiece so compelling even if it can also lead to some incredibly tragic moments.
When assessing the brutality of a death, it is important to keep in mind both the cause of death and the emotions behind it. Some of the deaths in this series are extremely physically brutal, but may not be as devastating as deaths with more built-up emotions. Shock factor can also play a large role in how brutal a death is, with killing off a character fans consider safe sometimes having a much more impact than with the death of a character clearly just fodder. The popularity of these characters can also make these moments different, in part because fans often form more connections with the sorcerers they’ve seen the most. With all that in mind, here are the ten most brutal deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen so far.
10 Hanami
Hanami isn’t a particularly likable character since they’re a Disaster Curse meant to wipe out humanity, but their deaths in the Shibuya Incident still hit hard. After trying to take down Gojo along with Jogo and Choso, Hanami made a fatal mistake and Gojo was able to pin her against the wall with his cursed technique after ripping out her eyes. This is an incredibly brutal display of Gojo’s power, but because it’s not as emotional as many of the other deaths on this list, it ranks last.
9 games
Like Hanami, Jogo is another Disaster Curse who fought against an enemy too strong for him during the Shibuya Incident arc. In Jogo’s case, he fought Sukuna in a devastating battle that showed Curse that he was not as strong as the strongest beings in Jujutsu Kaisen. His death surpasses Hanami’s brutal death because of the emotional moment Jogo has right before Sukuna kills him with a fire arrow, showing him apologizing to his dead friends for failed them.
8 Toji Fushiguro
Toji actually had two rather brutal deaths but since the second death was self-inflicted, this list will focus on the first. At the end of Gojo’s Past arc, the new god-level Gojo used his Purple Hollow technique to completely destroy part of Toji’s body to avenge Riko. The art in this scene really raised the level of brutality of Gojo’s attack and showed how cool Toji had been up until that point, his death was somewhat emotional even though he was a monster How strange.
7 Yuki Tsukumo
Yuki Tsukumo is one of only four special level witches in the series along with Gojo, Yuta and Geto. While other witches at her power level had plenty of time to show off what they could do, Yuki only managed one match against Kenjaku when he tried to reach Tengen’s body. The fight itself is extremely brutal as Yuki takes a lot of damage and pushes through the pain to attack Kenjaku. Realizing how powerful he is, Yuki makes a desperate plan to use her cursed technique to destroy him by creating a black hole. This plan unfortunately failed and killed Yuki in the process, leaving her to suffer a brutal death partly because she didn’t have much to do before she died.
6 Masamichi Yaga
After Gojo was sealed during the Shibuya Incident, many of the witches he protected from the higher-ups in Jujutsu society were in danger. While Yuji manages to avoid dying from this, Principal Masamichi Yaga is not so lucky. Although he could have saved himself by giving his superiors the secret method to create cursed corpses, he instead chose to protect his secret, while also protecting all even the cursed corpses he created. Although Yaga is largely a supporting character and his manner of death is not particularly brutal, the emotional reasons for him allowing himself to die and his leaving behind his creations to fend for themselves are I made this execution painful.
5 Riko Amanai
Riko Amanai is the focus of Gojo’s Past arc, a middle school student assigned to protect by Gojo and Geto before she merged with Tengen. While she seemed to understand the sacrifice she would have to make, when Geto offered her a chance to run away and truly live a full life, she domestically agreed. eye. Unfortunately at that moment, Toji shot her in the head, ending her life just as she found a reason to move on. The emotional weight of this death makes it incredibly devastating, and the anime makes Riko’s death even more devastating with music.
4 Zenin family
This is a special case because this entry on the list involves multiple deaths instead of just one. But part of what made Maki’s destruction of the Zenin clan so brutal was the scope of the destruction she caused. After Mai sacrifices herself to make Maki stronger, the witch gains similar abilities to Toji and uses this newfound power to brutally slaughter the remaining members of the Zenin clan. The deaths here are some of the most gruesome in the series, with Maki haphazardly dismembering bodies and even ripping off faces with her sword. This is a moment that is more cathartic than emotionally devastating, but on a physical level, it is Jujutsu Kaisen’s most brutal moment.
3 Kento Nanami
To avenge the death of the Dagon Disaster Curse, Jogo burned alive those he deemed responsible, including Nanami. However, this did not completely kill the sorcerer, who continued to fight the transformed humans as long as he could. Unfortunately, as he was doing this, Mahito found him and killed him right in front of Yuji, leaving the young sorcerer even more devastated. This death also left fans sad, who gained a glimmer of hope after seeing Nanami come back to life after being burned by Jogo. Mahito’s brutal murder of Nanami put an end to that hope.
2 Nobara Kugisaki
Nobara was another victim of Mahito during the Shibuya Incident. While chasing one of her clones, Nobara was led back to Mahito’s main body, at which point he was able to touch her face, causing her eyes to explode. Nobara’s death was so brutal that some fans to this day still deny that she actually died, saying that the series never technically confirmed it. While this is true, the fact that Nobara has not appeared in the story because of her injuries implies that she is truly gone and her brutal end is truly the last thing fans will ever see. The grave will see her character.
1 Satoru Gojo
Gojo’s death is one of the most controversial moments in recent chapters of the series. This is because in the chapter before his death, it seemed like he had defeated Sukuna and the danger to him had passed. Much of the chapter in which he dies is devoted to showing conversations between Gojo and all of his dead friends, creating a sense of dread when it is revealed that Sukuna actually cut him in half and won the battle. amazingly won the war. Both the image of Gojo being sliced in half and dying along with the shocking shock of his loss along with the emotional impact of his death easily make this one of the best and most brutal deaths in the series .
Jujutsu Kaisen is in the midst of its final season and most of its witches face off against Sukuna, meaning there could be more brutal deaths before the series ends. However, the manga’s willingness to kill off its characters in brutal and shocking ways makes this finale much more compelling than it otherwise would have been. So while the 10 most brutal deaths in the series may be hard to accept, they’re ultimately the main reason why. Jujutsu Kaisen is one of Shonen Jump’s best manga today.
