Warning: Contains spoilers for chapter #249 of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Summary
Yuta’s domain expansion in Jujutsu Kaisen is similar to Emiya’s Essence of Reality in Fate/Stay Night. Yuta and Shirou have similarities in their backstories and abilities, showing the influence of the Fate series on Jujutsu Kaisen. Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, has expressed his love for the Fate series and was inspired by it in his own work.
Jujutsu Kaisen has finally revealed its most anticipated Domain Expansion, which belongs to Yuta Okkotsu, and it seems to pay homage to Gege Akutami’s beloved series. The latest chapter continues the fight against Sukuna as Yuta finally opens his domain and vows to end the battle within it. In addition to enhancing excitement, Yuta’s domain extension also draws a comparison to a similar technique from the Fate series that may have inspired many other aspects of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Chapter #249 of Jujutsu Kaisen reveals the expansion of Yuta’s territory, called “Mutual True Love,” which takes the form of a battlefield littered with katanas and wooden crosses pierced with blades. This goes through. Yuta’s domain bear bears a striking resemblance to Shirou Emiya’s Essence Mortar in Fate/Stay Night called “Unlimited Blade Works”, which also appears as a similarly barren wasteland littered with weapons.
The similarities between Shirau and Yuta’s techniques appear to be a deliberate allusion by Akutami, who once is hinted to be a big fan of the Fate seriesmay even be inspired by the characters and techniques of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Although these two techniques are governed by different rules and have distinct characteristics, both Jujutsu Kaisen’s Range Extension and Fate’s True Finale have many similarities in that they both represent for the pinnacle of their respective power systems and essentially creating a liminal space that represents the essence of its creator. In Yuta’s case, his Domain name seems to hint at his history with Rika, and his views on love are diametrically opposed to Sukuna’s. Meanwhile, the gloomy scene in Shirou’s Realm Realm reflects his bleak outlook on life.
Shirou and Yuta also have many similarities in terms of their backstory, they both witnessed traumatic events as children. The two also appear to possess similar abilities, with Yuta being able to copy Cursed Techniques and Shira having the ability to track and recreate weapons, further hinting at the Fate franchise’s influence on Jujutsu Kaisen and Gege Akutami.
Jujutsu Kaisen Is Greatly Influenced by Fate
Fate was created by Nasu Kinoko and TYPE-MOON
According to a comment in the official fanbook, Jujutsu Kaisen was greatly influenced by Fate/No. Gege Akutami seems to be heavily inspired by the world-building of the Fate series, especially the writing by Nasu Kinoko, the series’ creator and co-founder of TYPE-MOON. Gege also expressed his interest in Gilgamesh, who may have been an inspiration for Sukuna, as they have similar views, appearances, and personalities.
Gege’s love for the Fate series is also evident in this illustration of Lancer, another beloved character from Fate/Stay Night, commemorating the series’ 15th anniversary. The same goes for Yuta’s domain expansion in chapter #249 perfectly coinciding with Fate’s 20th anniversaryproving the reference could very well be an intentional nod to the iconic series and not just a coincidence.
All in all, the nod to Unlimited Blade Works is certainly a pleasant surprise for fans of both series, who may have never expected the two universes to collide. The revelation of Yuta’s domain extension has raised expectations for the upcoming chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen as fans eagerly await the outcome of the battle against Sukuna and the true power of Yuta’s domain.
