Kafka has transformed into a massive Kaiju creature, and it looks like his childhood friend Mina, the head of the Third Unit, is about to appear.
Everyone was curious about what would happen to Kafka and whether he would be okay. Volume 1 of Kaiju issue 8 is titled The Man Who Became a Kaiju.
It introduces Kafka Hibino, who once dreamed of joining the Anti-Kaiju Self-Defense Force but ended up working as a Kaiju cleaner.
While handling the Kaiju bodies, Kafka recalls his childhood friend Mina Ashiro, who is now the leader of the Self-Defense Forces' 3rd Division.
When a Kaiju appears in Yokohama, Kafka's company must clean up the mess it left behind. Kafka is tasked with studying the insides of dead Kaiju, which he really doesn't like.
Even though he didn't want to do it, Kafka felt he had no other choice and just accepted his fate.
That night, Kafka can't escape the smell of Kaiju intestines and he watches a news report about how great Mina is as a Defense Force captain.
It reminded him of the promise he made to her when they were children. The next day at work, Kafka meets Leno Ichikawa, a newcomer who really wants to join the Self-Defense Forces.
Leno was determined, unlike Kafka's more resigned attitude, but Kafka still encouraged him.
While they were working, Kafka and Leno came across a small Kaiju, also known as Yoju, and it began attacking them. Kafka pushed Leno out of danger, but he was caught up in the monster.
Just when things go wrong and Kafka is about to be eaten, Leno returns and helps him fight Yoju. Mina and her team then appear to destroy the threat, saving Kafka and Leno.
After the battle, Kafka and Leno were hospitalized and gradually recovered. Leno encouraged Kafka to pursue his dream of joining the Self-Defense Forces and Kafka decided to give it a try.
But their conversation didn't last long because a small flying Kaiju appeared. It says it has “found him” before jumping into Kafka's mouth and turning him into a Kaiju.
As Kafka tries to understand what happened to him, he and Leno notice that an old man has seen them. Scared, they decided to run away.
Volume 1 of Kaiju No. 8 ends with Mina taking a bath and thinking about how Kafka broke his promise to fight the Kaiju with her. She then receives a call asking her to deal with a Kaiju, not knowing it is Kafka but she says yes.
Expected
In volume 2 of Kaiju issue 8, we'll probably see Kafka and Ichikawa deal with what happens after Kafka turns into a Kaiju.
They will try to escape from the hospital and we will see Kafka begin to understand his new powers. It can also show us how strong he is in a fight.
In Volume 2 of Kaiju No. 8, we'll probably see Kafka grappling with his feelings about being part of the Self-Defense Forces now that he's a Kaiju.
It will make us wonder what he will choose to do in the future. Additionally, we'll be curious to know if Kafka can turn back into a human or will he be stuck as a Kaiju forever.
