Kaiju No. 8 has released a new visual for the highly anticipated anime series.
The image was released via the official website of Kaiju No. 8 features Kikoru Shinomiya, a top talent of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, calmly reading a book while sitting on the roof of an old bus, seemingly unaware of his surroundings. Production IG (Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell and Haikyu!!) will produce animation for the anime series but has yet to announce Kikoru’s voice actor.
The final image of Kaiju issue #8 before the one with Kikoru shows Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa doing cleanup after an apparent Kaiju battle. Studio Khara designed the monsters to wreak havoc on the series.
Masaya Fukunishi and Wataru Kato will voice Kafka and Reno, respectively, while Asami Seto will play Mina Ashiro – rounding up the casting news for Kaiju issue 8 so far. Information regarding the identities of the production team members is not yet available.
What is Kaiju No. 8 about?
The plot description for Kaiju No. 8 reads: “In a world plagued by menacing creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino wishes to join the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to defeat them. ‘Let us destroy the Kaiju together,’ Kafka pledged to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Over time, life circumstances forced them to go their separate ways and caused him to give up his lifelong ambition. He is employed by Monster Sweeper, Inc., a professional cleaning company that specializes in cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles. Meanwhile, Mina Ashiro is currently the Captain of the Self-Defense Forces’ 3rd Division. Right now, he wasn’t worthy to fight Kaiju with her. At work, Kafka comes across the highly motivated Reno Ichikawa. There is no room for failure. His perseverance sparked Kafka’s ambition to stand alongside Mina as they worked together to protect humanity from the Kaiju. A dream frozen in time, thawed by a burning promise, but Kafka has no idea that the impending Kaiju threat is suddenly approaching him.”
Naoya Matsumoto created the Kaiju manga issue #8 that the anime will adapt. The popular manga currently has 10 volumes, which began serialization in July 2020. Viz Media has the license to publish the manga in North America and has so far published 7 of the 10 volumes in English.
Kaiju No. 8 will release in April 2024.
