The next issue of Young Animal on September 10 will be the “remembrance” issue of the late author
This year’s combined 16th and 17th edition of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine announced on Thursday that the magazine’s 18th edition will publish a new chapter of Kentarou Miura’s Berserk manga on the 10th. Chapter 364 will have a colorful opening page. The issue says this chapter is the “latest” chapter of the manga.
The magazine will be a “tribute” issue to Miura, and will also feature a special booklet “Message to Kentarou Miura” and a poster of “famous scenes” from the manga.
Miura died on May 6 from acute aortic dissection. Enjoy 54 years old. Since the announcement of Miura’s death, authors in Japan and around the world have offered their condolences.
The berserk manga follows Guts, a powerful warrior who wields a large sword, as he wanders a dark medieval world filled with demons, corrupt and decadent aristocrats, and other horrors. Every night, he is attacked by demons, attracted by the curse attached to him after a traumatic event. He travels the world on a mission to destroy an old friend turned into a demon who has taken everything from him.
The first eight Deluxe Edition volumes of Kentarou Miura’s Berserk manga from Dark Horse Comics ranked among the 100 bestsellers overall on Amazon.com in May, following the author’s death. Dark Horse Comics began republishing the manga in deluxe hardcover editions in February 2019. Each volume has three regular compilation volumes of the manga.
Miura published a one-shot version of the Berserk manga in Hakusensha magazine Monthly Comicomi in 1988. He published the Berserk series in Hakusensha in Monthly Animal House magazine in 1989, and the series continued in Hakusensha as Young Animal magazine until now. The series has more than 40 million copies in circulation. Hakusensha published the manga’s 40th volume in Japan on September 28, 2018. Dark Horse Comics published the same volume in North America on October 8, 2019.
The manga inspired an anime series in 1997, as well as an anime trilogy from 2012 to 2013. Another anime television series premiered in Japan in July 2016 and the second half. of the new series premiered in April 2017.
