Oscar-nominated director launches “silent manga” style series on Twitter and Instagram
Kodoani.com – Oscar-nominated director Koji Yamamura has just launched a new web manga titled “Karo & Piyobpt” on Friday. The famous animator is sharing the manga series in a “silent manga” style on platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
The manga “Karo & Piyobpt” brings back characters from Yamamura’s 1992 anime short in the show “Puchi Kurei” (Petit Clay). The three short films of “Puchi Kurei” were broadcast on NHK in December 1992 and were created by combining clay animation and three-dimensional props, along with traditional cel animation.
Koji Yamamura is currently a professor at the Graduate School of Film and Media of Tokyo University of the Arts and an independent animator. He received an Oscar in 2003 for the short film “Mt. Head”. Yamamura’s animated film “Dozens of Norths” won the Contrechamp award at the 2022 Annecy International Animation Festival and has many other awards.
Additionally, Yamamura has also completed an upcoming virtual reality anime short called “My Inner Ear Quartet” (“Mimi ni Sumu Mono”). This anime will have Japanese and English versions, and is in the process of participating in film festival competitions both inside and outside Japan.
