Luckily, a scene in Episode 1 provided her with a bit more depth. Nagisa’s older sister implies that she is rarely happy or smiling at home, perhaps because she feels unsatisfied despite her popularity. Now that Kubo has Junta as her own version of Naoto, she’s much happier and those lonely feelings may soon go away. Apparently there’s more to Kubo than teasing her Nagatoro-lite at school – she probably has some work to do as an adult, just like Junta herself.
