The most popular League of Legends server in Korea has been severely affected after the massive flood in this country.
According to Yonhap News, the record heavy rain in the Seoul metropolitan area has caused significant damage in many aspects in this country. In particular, the server of the most popular video game in Korea – League of Legends, was forced to temporarily close.
On the morning of August 9, Riot Games – the publisher of League of Legends in Korea said that there was a connection error that made the game inaccessible for 5 hours. Specifically, players cannot enter the game from 21:30 on August 8 to 2:30 on August 9.
The incident happened at peak hours when a large number of League of Legends players were trying to access this game in Korea. On social networks, a series of posts appeared with content complaining about the service quality of the host unit in this country.
“I have to play a game before I go to bed. But it’s boring because when I turn on the device, I can’t enter the game,” Hankyung site quoted a player who encountered the above problem.
After that, Riot Games side posted a notice that their technical department is trying to resolve the issue. The reason given by the “father” of League of Legends is because the power supply to the server is in a flooded state and needs to be replaced urgently. As a result, the game server will be closed unexpectedly for recovery purposes.
“Some of the server’s equipment was flooded and needed urgent replacement, so we need time to restore the connection,” a manager from Riot Games told Yonhap News.
On the evening of August 8, heavy rain caused deep flooding in many areas of Seoul city as well as power outages in some locations. Major roads are heavily flooded, hindering the flow of vehicles. Meanwhile, railways and subways have to suspend operations.
In addition, this disaster has brought unfortunate casualties to the country of Korea. According to information from the Korea Disaster Prevention and Safety Measures Command, at least 7 people were killed, 6 were missing, and 9 were injured in this disaster event.
