What is World Finals?
The League of Legends World Finals, also known as Worlds, is the pinnacle tournament of Esports League of Legends, where the top teams from 9 regions will compete to win the world championship title. Held annually at the end of the competition season in a new host region, Worlds brings together qualified teams from professional tournaments around the world. This year, Korea is the host for this tournament.
Worlds Selection Round will be a BO5 match between Team BDS (4th seed of LEC) and Golden Guardians (4th seed of LCS) on October 9 at LoL Park, Seoul City, Korea. The winner of the Selection Round will participate in Worlds along with 21 other teams, including 8 teams starting from the Play-In Round. The seeding is determined based on the previous international competition performance of each region.

What is the competition format?
The new format of Worlds will include 22 teams, divided into 3 competition stages: Play-in Round, Swiss Format Round and Direct Elimination Round (Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, Finals). Detailed information About each stage are below.
Where will Worlds take place?
The Play-In Round will take place from October 10 – October 15 at LoL Park, Seoul City, Korea. The Swiss Tournament will take place on October 19 – October 23 and October 26 – October 29 at KBS Stadium, Seoul City, Korea.
The Knockout Round includes Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals.
● The Quarterfinals will take place on November 2 – November 5 and the Semifinals will take place on November 11 – November 12, both at Sajik Indoor Sports Center in Busan City, Korea.
● The Grand Final will take place on November 19 at Gocheok Sky Dome Stadium, Seoul City, the largest indoor arena in Korea and the home field of the Korean baseball team: Kiwoom Heroes.
If you are coming to watch live during the Swiss Championship or Knockout Stage, please read the event policy here. Which teams will participate? The seedings of a region are decided based on international and regional performance. Strong regions will send some or all of their seeded teams straight into the Swiss Play-In, while other regions will have fewer seeds and/or start in the Play-In Round.

TEAM WINNER OF THE WORLDS SELECTION ROUND Will be decided in the match between LCS’s Golden Guardians (GG) and LEC’s Team BDS (BDS) taking place on October 9.
Detailed Information of Worlds Rounds
Play-In Round: October 10 – October 15
The Play-In Round will open the tournament with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds from VCS and PCS, No. 1 seeds from LLA, CBLOL, LJL as well as the winner of the World Championship Selection Round between the 4th seeded teams of LCS and LCS. LEC. These 8 teams have been divided into 2 groups with a winner’s bracket and a loser’s bracket according to the BO3 format. The top team of each group will meet the second place team of the other group in a series of decisive BO5 matches. The winner of each pair of matches will advance to the Swiss Tournament.
The first 10 matches are BO3 and the last 2 matches of this round are BO5.
Swiss Formula: October 19 – October 23; October 26 – October 29
The 2 teams that pass the Play-In Round will join the 3rd seeded teams from the LEC and LCS as well as the 4th seeded teams from the LCK and LPL. These 16 teams will be divided into 4 lottery groups: Seed 1, Seed 2, Seed 3, and Seed 4 + Winner of the Play-In Round. Teams will be drawn into eight initial pairs of BO1 matches according to their seeding order – Pot 1 teams play Pot 4 teams and Pot 2 teams play Pot 3 teams. In addition, teams from from the same region will not meet in the first match. After the first match, there will be another draw for the second match to pair teams with the same score against each other. There will be no limiting conditions in this draw. In total, 8 teams will advance to the Knockout Round. Although the initial matches are all BO1, all matches deciding whether to continue or be eliminated will be BO3. Knockout Round: November 2 – November 5 (Quarterfinals); November 11 – November 12 (Semi-finals); November 19 (Final)
8 teams advance to the Knockout Round, including the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals. In this round, the tournament will switch to a knockout format and all matches will take place in a BO5 format. The Quarter Final matches will be decided by draw on stage immediately after the final day of the Swiss Tournament. In this draw, teams with a score of 3-0 will be matched with teams with a score of 3-2 from the previous round. The remaining teams will be matched against each other.
