Kodoani.com – Official website of Eiga Touken Ranbu: Reimei (Touken Ranbu the Movie: Dawn), the sequel to the live-action Eiga Touken Ranbu film, revealed a new trailer and teaser image for the film on Thursday. The trailer further reveals the film’s cast and release date on March 31, 2023.

Additional cast members include Akira Emoto as Fujiwara no Michinaga, Kanji Tsuda as Minamoto no Raikō, and Terunosuke Takezai as Abe no Seimei.

The new film will be set in Kyoto during the Heian era, and will focus on Minamoto no Raikō’s legendary massacre of the Shuten-dōji oni.

Hiroki Suzuki, Yoshihiro Aramaki, Masanari Wada, and Fūma Sadamoto return as Mikazuki Munechika, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Heshikiri Hasebe, and Honebami Tōshirō, respectively. Other actors include:

Saiji Yakumo (live-action Mars) is again directing the film, with a script by Hideyuki Kobashi and Jin Haganeya. Filming began earlier this year in April at multiple locations in Japan and involved hundreds of supporting actors.

The Touken Ranbu franchise’s first live-action film premiered in Japan in January 2019. The film ranked at No. 5 in its opening weekend.

“Sword Personification Training Game” Touken Ranbu takes famous swords from Japanese history and interprets them as bishōnen. Nitroplus designed the characters and scripts. The game launched in Japan in January 2015.

The game also adapted the Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu television anime series and an upcoming anime series, as well as two Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru sub-anime series, an anime trilogy, and an anime compilation. The franchise has also adapted two live-action films, a stage musical series and a stage play series, as well as various manga.

Johren released the browser game Touken Ranbu in English in April 2021 and released the mobile version in August 2021.

Touken Ranbu Warriors by KOEI Tecmo Games launched in Japan for PC and Switch on February 17, and launched for Switch in North America on May 24.
